He has been making music for 14 years and electronic based music for 8 of those years. dev79's musical influences and interests include a wide array of scenes, such as Illbient, Indie Hip Hop, Breakcore, IDM, Dancehall, and many more." "Live performances are very important to the ethics of dev79 and he has spent a great deal of time and energy keeping his live profile in high gear. Whether he is doing live electronic sets, dj'ing, or some combination of both, he can be found in a club or on the radio somewhere banging it out multiple times per month. With a home base in Philadelphia, PA, he is a resident at the monthly 'Current' party, held at the near legendary Silk City lounge. Having played many venues, from NYC to Kentucky to DC and plenty in between, he is proud to have performed alongside many renowned artists, including: Add N to X (Mute Records), Venetian Snares (Planet Mu), DJ Olive (of WE, Sonic Youth Records), Dalek (Ipecac Records), and Knifehandchop (Tigerbeat6, Irritant records) -too name a few. He recently returned from a 10 city tour of the U.S. & Canada with Sonicterror Records (April 2003) where his brash brand of music went over extremely well with the crowds, especially in Montreal and Toronto. And on top of all this he runs a monthly radio show on radiovolta.org / wpeb 88.1fm in West Philadelphia! The local Philly scene has been gracious and accepting of the 79 sound. He was one of four finalists in the hip hop category of the 2002 “Pitch Control” DJ contest, sponsored by the Philadelphia City Paper, and was recently named 2002 Abstract Hip Hop Artist of the Year by PhillyHipHop.Com. He has been featured numerous times in Grooves Electronic Music Magazine, the Philadelphia Daily News, the Philadelphia City Paper (including a cover story), the Philadelphia Weekly, and many other publications." SPORADIK (Three Headed Goat, World Of Danger, Kallisti Kollectif) http://sporadik.com http://threeheadedgoat.com/sporadik/sporadik.html "Sporadik's electronic creatures evince intelligence and, yes, they may make you want to dance, but they're not IDM. Rather than being clever to the point of cuteness, more often than not these are mechanical hellbeasts...Beats sound like industrial trash compactors with misfiring pistons. Synths crackle, claw and hiss. Samples get torn into distorted strips. It's occasionally crazed, but not chaotic--there is a sense of logic and order to this machine-made mayhem. -Willamette Week "..music [that] has been praised far and wide for its innovative approach to rhythm and noise, travelling the same sonic superhighway as "rhythmic noise" artists like Hands, Ripit, Radium and Tarmvred en route to a skewed metropolitan aesthetic of structural experimentation...Mixing swirling ambient interludes with growling [bass] and pulse pounding beats" NOGUNRI (World Of Danger) -hyperdriven stompers and slammin' slowcore breaks FIRESTORM VIPER http://go.to/noiseliberationarmy "This american project based in Seattle delivers a sonic conspiracy that wavers between powerful charge and atmospheric suspension._Burst of beats dig through oscillation of buzzing distortion and looping sequences, while washing sounds flow to establish spatial ambiences." -"Le Vestibule" radio show, Quebec NO CORE (Dtrash Records) http://go.to/ripthesystem -transplanted Ontarian with "..styles ranging from harsh noise to glitched out splattercore and gear that would make any electrohead drool"..recently played at Artists Against War and some Toronto events (including Ambient Ping) DJ RECORD PLAYER -effected phonographics, interpretive Nomex and Martin Tetrault covers Last edited by clone; Jul 15, 03 at 11:23 PM. |
