Thursday July 31st - LAST POUND EVER!!!
After 4.5 years of throwing a weekly club night we have decided that enough is enough. We would love to see you all one last time as we welcome our T-Dot ragga don, JAWBONE in a very special set with the one BOUNTY HUNTA on the mic. The night will also feature DJ REVISE in ironically, his POUND debut.
It's time for us to shift our focus and dive into the studio. As far as weeklies go, we will not be coming back. We might do the odd show here or there, but other than that, we will not be hosting anymore weekly club events. Why? We're too old for this shit. There was a time when being promoters was easy because we were party kids too. It made a lot of sense for us and all of our fine friends and acquaintances to have a place to get together and enjoy great music and fun times. We were always happy to organize that for everyone, and we think we did a pretty damn good job of it for a long time. But things have changed. I can't be a party kid anymore. I barely ever go out. Same goes for most of the original POUND crew like Fluid, Mikey Lai, Dirty Old Poppa NeutrixX and Phase Two. If it wasn't for the solid contributions from Filthy Fingers, Eman, Akeel, Tako, Shannon, Groovy, Arpy, SodaPop, The Black Hole Club, Kuma, Denny Dub and Krusha this whole thing might have folded a long time ago. Let me tell you one thing: We are far from folding. If anything. We are just getting started. In the coming months we will retreat into the studio to work on The POUND Project. This new endeavour will take into account everything we've discovered musically over the past 5 years and combine it all into a compelling musical perfomance. Instead of spending our Wednesdays getting drunk and playing music, we're going to get serious about making it. Until the time comes that we are ready to debut our project, or until we get an inclination to host a one-off event somewhere, we encourage you all to visit our website at http://www.poundrecordings.com where, among other things, you will be able to access an ever-growing body of POUND-oriented music both mixed and original. Watch for our first vinyl release, an intelligent D&B 12" from POUND producers TASHA and KRUSHA coming out after Labour Day. Tasha's track, "Oil Filta" is a hard-as-fuck roller that touches some unique sonic frequencies and is sure to hook the crowd. Krusha's "Reptillia" is an intelligent blend of techy beats and a little punk flavour that just happens to make the woofers bump and the headlights dim. Anyways, all in all, I guess just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has supported us all these years. I want to let you all know that though we might be winding things down on the promotions side, we are just getting revved up on the label side. Big things ahead. All my best, Sean Karl, President POUND Recordings Inc. http://www.poundrecordings.com Thursday July 31st, 2003 @ The Drink JAWBONE with BOUNTY HUNTA MC DJ REVISE Cover $5, Free B4 10PM, No Guest List 398 Richards St. Vancouver |

RESPECT
miss the old Palladium Jawbone used to be one of my faves, and when James Brown would come in too We are just starting up our secondly weekly ever, and looking at how successful POUND has been, the level of talent, and price you managed to keep everything at, I really don't think it is humanly possible anymore. Different times... see ya on the 31st |

I was only there towads the end and completely missed out on the paladium days (although Graceland is another story)... but what I saw was easily one of the best (if not the best depending on your preference in styles) weeklies this town had to offer for tunage, rock solid talent day in day out. Tis a shame, but I know you guys will do well with the recording and maybe some of us young pups can take up where you left off and keep this shit rockin.
To all ya'll reading this, the Drink better be packed to the tits on the 31st - this city owes it to these boys... |

Just to add to spk.........
i have been there from the beginning and it is sad to see our nite go but sean is right. We all love the music and the people that surround this industry of ours..........some of the memories....PALLADIUM debauchery.....the always interesting 7 Alexander..and hardship of the Drink ....Dieselboy, Blim, Simply Jeff, Sage, Aphrodite, Mystical Influence, Marcus Visionary, UFO! and all the top notch premier talent we have brought in....the local talent that have gone thru pound...i have to say, vancouver has the best DJs in the world..........the breaks and dnb djs in this town are the most underappreciated talent..........i am pretty sure there are more but memories fade when you get older..... Much respect to the automatic crew, the 20hz crew, the lime crew, the wfb crew, and all the vancouver and seattle music crews that i have not mentioned.......... I look forward to the next "phase" of the pound collective.......we are not done......will never be done!!!!! peace out, see ya around...... we have two more nites......... Tat aka mookie aka phase one aka phase two and now aka phase 3....hahaha always keeping you guessing!!!!!! |
