For James Graham, it's always been about hammering down both sides of the coin, be it musical, geographical or anything else. Born in Bristol, England and raised in western Canada, this self-proclaimed dub terrorist has made a habit of smashing sound systems through his seven years of intense involvment in the music industry and with the launch of his latest project, the Konspiracy Group, he doesn't seem to be stopping yet.
A self professed pusher of boundaries and sonic limitations, Kuma has done it all. Journalist, DJ, producer, label owner, and now owner and founder of the Konspiracy Group, his plans for world domination, or at least a rise in popularity are close at hand. A former member of of infamous politikal art collective, thee Shrum Tribe, Kuma's range of vision is as broad as his record collection. A finger in every pie and in every eye means something is always going on with this man. With a unique approach to the dancefloor and to the chill room, Kuma's unique dub-inflected styles have sent him all over the world to gigs with artists as varied as UFO! and the Stereo MC's. Dancefloors across North America have taken on Kuma and his Konspiracy Sound System project with vocalist Miss Behavior, and been rocked with excessive frequency. Turntables have been crushed with a unique mix and blend of amen heavy beats and dark vocal stylings to create what has been described by some as 'Fuzzstep,' a sonic challenge to all the senses. Expect new sounds, expect to hear the mixer, cd players, turntables and guest vocalists being used to create a wall of sound. Expect to dance. Expect to change your preconceptions about drum and bass.. Don't expect the "bomb tracks". Don't expect not to move. A master of economy of force, watch for the sonic bait and switch and then expect something brand new when you're losing it on the floor. The fuzzy dub terrorist is as well versed at rocking the dancefloor as he is blissing out the chillout room. A member of respected Vancouver electroniculturists, Team Lounge, Kuma has taken his brand of panambicnce all over the world and warped more than a few minds in the process. Dub meets musique concrete, hip-hop, ambience and world music in a Burroughsian sonic cutup designed for maximum effect on your cerebral cortex. With plans for work with Vancouver R&B singer, Amalia Townsend, the debut of his live project, Gunshae and running the Konspiracy Group currently filling his time, expect to hear a whole lot more from this radical sound bwoy in the near future.
