VIVIDSESSIONS request ... ?
As fantastic as many of the shows have been this year ( 2004 ) , there has been a slight bias in the talent.
A lot of great house imports, but very few trance. In 2003 we saw Hybrid , Seb Fontaine, Sandra Collins, Sasha... etc and world of great progression Trance shows. Now 2004 has had some amazing DJ's ( Donald Glaude, Hatiras, to name a few ) but no trance line-up. Whats in store for april ... ?? |

Hey, thanks for the input. On our end it's been more of a trying to best gauge what crowd we have built up over the past 7 months, but also what else is happening around town. With the new Friday @ The Rage and since other house fridays around town seemed to be less busy .. then more funky might be a good option for us. But sounds like not much is happening at the rage anymore.
Either way, drop suggestions here, but please also keep in mind that alot of Trance dj's expect ridiculous and unacceptable fees, or flights are just too expense to this side of the continent. ... please do not list people like Oakenfold, Tiesto, Ferry, avb, pvd... Some more proggy/trancy shows that will turn some heads: March 19 April 2 April 23 April 30 Last edited by PH1.ca; Mar 14, 04 at 01:28 PM. |

I wasn't suggesting Tiesto , Oakenfold ,etc. I recognize this is Vivid , not Gatecrasher or Creamfields.
But there's a lot of good trance Dj's in the area from both the states and Canada touring in this area that would draw a really nice crowd. MarcoV for example is cheap, so is a lot of female trance artists. Not only that, there's some fantastic FNK Trance dj's who would be more then happy to do a Vivid Session. Did someone say Danny Taylor ??? |

One thing to keep in mind is that if we were to say what our "format" were, it would be along the lines of Seb Fontaine / Donald Glaude
So from experiences we've had before its hard to make a drastic music shift from one dj to the next being trance, unless they are able to gauge the crowd and have a funky set available. We're not a trance night, or a deep house, or deep progressive night. We're just VIVID ;) But for sure if you want a full-on trance experience, Danny's ngiht at Viva is the best choice Last edited by PH1.ca; Mar 14, 04 at 02:53 PM. |

Understandable , but it's unique you used both Donald Glaude and Seb Fontaine as examples . Because they both play a mix of progressive house and trance which is what I'm sorta requesting ( they're also the two best shows I've seen at Sonar ).
The reason I didn't suggest names like Tiesto , beyond the booking fee's and naming the n.1 dj in the world, is I don't mean pure trance. I can see how that would be a radical shift from the regular Vivid sessions and the people you've collected. But the most packed shows I've seen there are the progressive trance dj's you bring in ( like sasha, glaude and fontaine ). |

Seb plays a bit of Progressive, but rarely trance anymore
Donald is strictly Banging house, breaks and some funky techno You'd be surprised how fine of a line it is with some crowds though.. alot of people into house hate trance, and some trance peeps hate house.. hard to believe but true :P I'm just really happy there's alot of people like you and most of the fnk crew that are open to alot of music. But also keep in mind that several of our house shows have been the biggest and best we've ever had: Felix da Housecat, DJ Dan, Bad Boy Bill, Lee Burridge, John Kelley |

At Donalds Glaude set he played Rock Your Body by Ferry Corsten , and Seb played a few of his homebrewed trance tracks.
But I agree , it's really hard trying to appease everyone, and when you have a big following for house already no point in throwing in trance. If progressive is the only medium between the two I look forward to seeing the april lineup. |

I had a similar conversation with Seb, and he does not want to be labelled as anything anymore... and that's the direction the industry needs to go in. Being tagged as one thing in particular is bad and limiting. He just wants to be known as a electronic house dj.
yup, very very hard to please everyone :) |

Curious question, tho...the link to the upcoming shows only goes as far as April 23...but your last prog/trance show date you mentioned is April 30th...oversight?...act booked tentatively but not finalized?...deliberate attempt to provoke though in anal people like me who notice such things? |

big ups the "Vivid" crew for pushing things forward - these guys put in a lot of hard work and time to expose the masses to great music. respect. so true , if nothing else a big thank you for keeping the techno/dance scene alive in vancouver. |

I like especially what PH1 has done for the Techno scene in the city; I don't think there even was one really, at least not anything above sub-underground, hehe.
I think it's time for another Danny Taylor vs. Sean Walsh early morning prog trance set though in the coming months, but then again I'm biased =P |

first i want to give a shout out to cheebus 420, this guy is continuously and i mean continously encouraging people to go out and check out the scene. ie. tonight with ferry corsten he simple spread the word and now a group of 17 are heading down and this guys isn't even a promotor people just trust his excellent taste in music. wihtout steping on peoples toes i strongly encourage and suggest the fine people at vivid get a hold of this guy he is your ticket into tapping the massively lucrative ubc crowd of serious party goers.
see you tonight lance ferry is going to be sweet-bring the good times and i'll bring the yankee red bull :smoke1: |
