SHY FX
Ebony UK
Tuesday July 20th
Shy FX crashed the British pop charts in mid-1994 with "Original Nuttah," ("Bom-diddly-whoa-oh-oh, shiddly-ah-na-no-no-no!") one of the most infectious ragga/jungle anthems of all time. Almost immediately after its release, the single ignited dance clubs, flew out of the stores, and eventually made the British charts. From there he quickly became one of jungle's most respected producers. After many releases on S.O.U.R. Records he formed his own labels, Ebony and Ivory, and released a growing list of tight singles like "The Message" and "Bambaataa," kinetic jump-up fusions of ragga attitude and old-school hip-hop themes. Shy proved that his early massive successes were no one-off flukes with the release of "Shake Ur Body" ("I see you standing on the corner of the dancefloor...") in 2001 alongside longtime studio collaborator T-Power. Shy's second track to crack the British pop charts "Shake Ur Body" got smashed by virtually every DJ in drum and bass, and still gets massive response and rewinds whenever it is dropped some three years later. Shortly after the release of the single, Shy FX and T-Power released the full length album "Set it Off", a seamless blend of jungle, drum and bass, R&B and hip-hop. Shy continues to roll, and his latest singles "Murderation" and "The Power of Ra" show why DJs everywhere are packing his tunes. Not limiting his skills strictly to the studio, Shy FX has shown time and time again that his skills on the decks are a match for his ear in the studio, and he's constantly in demand both in the UK and internationally for DJ sets.
Shy FX's last Vancouver appearance in August 2001 is was quite possibly the most hype, exciting, packed night in the history of the Lotus Sound Lounge, and certainly ranks up with a handful of select shows as a contender for best show ever at over five years of Automatic...
