DJ Owns and Dialekt from Portland, July 25 @ The Re-Lick
 Ragga Jungle has a new home Ragga jungle invades the Lotus last Sunday of every month for a new monthly bash, The Relick. Your Selektahs ANGST and Jay-Auto will be bringing the noise alongside talented guests from this city and beyond. This month: DJ Owns and Dialekt - Sunday, JULY 25 - We are pleased to present two of the Pacific Northwest's finest junglists and one of the hottest up and coming producers out there. They'll be making the trek up from Portland to drop some the best ragga you've ever heard. Anyone who's been to past Relicks has heard Dialekt's devastating dubs being caned. This is a show not to be missed!!! Look for the Relick to continue to swing further out of town, bringing in Selektahs from up and down the west coast and parts east, including the one like Soundmurderer (Rewind/Rephlex Detroit) later in the summer... Here's a little background on Dialekt and DJ Owns
Justin, also known as Dialekt, also known as D to tha LKT, is a young cat from Melbourne, Australia. He moved to Oregon about 3 years ago when he was still a youth, but already has begun to make an impression on the ragga-jungle community in the United States and abroad. He started producing in 1999 hip hop beats on really basic software, but this provided him with a passion for making music. When he first heard Goldie's tune "Terminator" on a friend's walkman, his creative outlet was to be making beats of this genre. Despite moving to a different country, Justin's fascination with making music and this sound called Drum and Bass kept growing. Exploring the genre further, he found that ragga jungle was what he liked most. After putting together a couple of bangin' ragga choons and hookin' up with Magneto, Dialekt (a name he ripped off from one of his mates back in Melbourne) is now Raggabot's resident producer and cronie. Although he's still pretty much a bedroom rocker, Dialekt has tracks being rinsed out on dubplate by such DJ's as Magneto, Oscar da Grouch (Junglist Platoon, Turnstyle, LA), Audio 1, Arson and the Urban Drumz Kru from the Bay Area, SteppaStyle from Movement Radio, ANGST, some heads in New Zealand and probably half a dozen other selectors by the time you read this. His tunes are very deeply rooted in the soundclash culture, with pretty much all the tracks having amens, dub-style riddims and a bunch of badman samples. A release on a jungle label shouldn't be too far off either, so we'll let you know when that happens (as soon as we get a host for our audio we'll have samples available) www.raggabot.com DJ Owns started his DJ-ing career on the east coast, as a hip-hop DJ and b-boy. DJ Owns originally spun under the moniker "The Liquid1", a name he'd earned in the Boston graffiti scene. DJ Owns began to attend raves as a break-dancer in 99, where as a break-dancer he was exposed to the jungle scene. In 2001 DJ Owns moved from the Boston area to Portland Oregon. Here he buckled down and began to create his own original sound within the Ragga genre. DJ Owns came to form a crew of talented DJ's, 1001 Untouchable Styles, and built a sound system from the ground up. In 2003, DJ Owns began to organize events and provide sound with the Cool School, an all ages venue in Portland, Oregon. Here DJ Owns coordinated five different monthly events, along with organizing much of the cool schools weekly events. In early 2004, the cool school came to a close, but DJ Owns maintained a positive image and kept strong. DJ Owns now has many upcomming sound bookings around the NW, along with DJ bookings, and his own crews event.
