APHRODITE
(Aphrodite Recordings/Urban Takeover/V2 U.K.)


Gavin King launched London club Aphrodite with his friend Adam Dyerson during 1988's "Second Summer of Love" in England. His involvement with the UK dance scene led him to collaborate with Mickey Finn in 1992 as Urban Shakedown, which produced the proto-jungle track "Some Justice." King also began making music under the Aphrodite moniker on his own label, and had a number of underground hits in the U.K.

He may have made his biggest mark with Finn as Urban Takeover, leading practitioners of the hip-hop influenced, dancefloor-oriented side of drum 'n' bass known as jump-up. With a string of dancefloor destroying bombs including "Drop Top Caddy", "Bad Ass!", Summer Breeze", and remixes of everyone from A Tribe Called Quest, the Jungle Brothers, N.W.A., and the Beastie Boys, Urban Takeover and Aphrodite were established as the undisputed heavyweights of the new sound. Aphrodite released his self-titled debut solo LP in 1999. 2004 saw the release of the "Aftershock" album, which included collaborations with Barrington Levy and Big Daddy Kane. Through it all Aphrodite has constantly been in demand as a DJ, tearing up dancefloors and packing clubs worldwide.

it really sucks that this event is on tuesday! lucky seattle have them on weekends.. i'd rather pay 20-25$ to go see him on weeneds, then on middle of the week! even thursday is better (lucky hush)!

sorry man, but tuesday's at the lotus are THE night for drum and bass in this city, and have been for close to 6 years now....

no dude, tickets are available at local record shops like Beatstreet, Boomtown, On Deck and Zulu and more than likely at the door if the show does'nt sell out first.

maybe the boomtown in Vic will have some available.
