NuBreed are Australia's premier live electronic act. In Australia they were nominated for 3 DMA's (Dance Music Awards) last year for Best Debut Artist, Best Live Act and Best New Release, and nominated for Best Live Act again at this year's awards. In the UK this year they were nominated for Best New Artist at the BREAKSPOLL awards (www.breakspoll.com) and came 2nd in that category, and one of their live shows recorded in Hobart was broadcast in it's entirety (well over an hour) on Radio One (www.bbc.co.uk/radio1) by Annie Nightingale. They've played some of the biggest events here in Australia including the Boiler Room of the Big Day Out, they co-headlined the mainstage at this year's Two Tribes event at Rod Laver Arena with Dave Seaman, Junkie XL & Layo & Bushwacka, they played mainstage at the Falls Festival last year, they warmed up for Sasha at the Adventjah festival in Brisbane, they played Sydney & Melbourne on the Gatecrasher tour, Vibes On A Summers Day with Jamiroquai, they were asked to support Groove Armada on their last national tour (but had to turn it down due to their album writing commitments). Premier breaks label Mob Records run by DJ Tayo (and the original home of the Stanton Warriors) signed NuBreed up to record their debut album entitled 'The Original' which will see a release in the UK in October and in Australia early in 2004. NuBreed have remixed everyone from Tiesto & Junkie XL, to Way Out West, Skunk Anansie, Scritti Politti and Groove Terminator. They were Top 5 on the national ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) Club Chart with their remix of BMG artist Hamish, and the track they remixed for Tiesto & Junkie XL hit the Top 60 singles chart in the UK. Their tracks and remixes are in demand across the world with placements on albums from Global Underground to Ministry of Sound. Rewind (The Past) The Melbourne trio have quickly risen to the forefront of the Australian live music scene largely due to their supremely energetic live performances and the widespread radio success of their first single 'Welcome'. The track was released through a small independent label (Zero Tolerance) and worked so well it stayed on high rotation with Australia's largest national youth radio network (Triple J) for 9 months. Meanwhile, NuBreed were devastating audiences all over the country with an onslaught of soaring vocals, progressive breaks, raps & rhymes, drum 'n bass and the odd tribal tech workout. The foundations of NuBreed were laid over 10 years ago when the three members Jase (Jason Catherine), Mykel (Michael Walburgh) and Db (Danny Bonnici) met while working around Melbourne. By this stage, all three had realized their life paths would center in music. When they weren't rockin', poppin', dancin' and performing backflips (our NuBreeders were a devastating force to contend with on Melbourne dancefloors back in the day!), Db, Mykel & Jase were collaborating on songwriting, production and programming projects for various Australian acts. They cut their teeth on hip hop, R&B, funk, soul and rock music in the process and piece by piece the musical foundations of the act began to take shape. The NuBreed sound was distilled over 2 years inside a studio combining more than 40 years of their collective musical experience. Their debut live performance at QBH (Melbourne's largest club) late in 2000 was executed in front of thousands of their hip hop peers at the National DMC DJ Championship Finals. Erupting on stage shrouded in hoods UR style, they brandished spray cans and tagged 'Nubreed' across the stage backdrop, and then proceeded to turn the hip hop community's gala annual event on it's head by dropping rhymes over tearing drum 'n bass and ripping out nu-school breaks on a very unsuspecting audience. "We split people sideways" Jase recalls, "Whether you loved it or hated it, you couldn't ignore it." Last edited by Shakes - WFB; Nov 29, 04 at 09:45 AM. Reason: Promotion |
