ADAM F. (UK) - BREAKBEAT KAOS - friday, april 1st + MAT THE ALIEN - MATTY - J-AUTO
www.spectrum-events.com
Friday, April 1st at Sonar (66 Water St.) ADAM F. (London, UK) plus: MAT THE ALIEN MATTY J-AUTO $15 advance at beatstreet and zulu limited $12 at livestock Ever since the launch of his 1998 MOBO award winning debut album 'Colours', that featured the top 20 hit 'Circles', the award-winning 'Metropolis' and the massive 'Brand New Funk', Adam F has been critically acclaimed as one of the biggest urban music artists the UK has to offer. (NME No. 10 World's Biggest Producer) Due to a concoction of demand and passion, Adam toured 'Colours' live with a sixteen strong crew at all the credible festivals the world had to offer, with his mission being to bring underground dance music to a wider audience. His most memorable festival performance being Glastonbury, where he performed alongside the likes of Jamiroquai and Eryka Badu. However, as soon as the tour had finished and Adam had arrived back in the UK, he realised the UK urban music scene of 1998 wasn’t quite enough to fuel his outrageous creativity, and subsequently decided to take his organised chaos to the States… Adam’s American crusade actually started with nothing more than a handful of demos that Def Jam quickly fell in love with, which were passed onto LL Cool J who commissioned Adam to produce 'Take It Off' for his eagerly anticipated 'G.O.A.T.' LP, that was consequently LL Cool J’s first US Billboard No.1album! “ I think that Adam F is one of the most blazing upcoming producers… He sure knows what he’s doing. He’s official. I think he has the potential to become a Dr Dre" (LL Cool J) LL was so rapt with the results that he demanded the LP's title track be re-recorded with Adam even though that meant the albums release date would be delayed three weeks! However, the result was brilliant, and if you don’t believe me ask Tim Westwood, who rewound 'G.O.A.T' five times on his BBC Radio 1 Rap show, something that had been previously unheard of. “ Adam F? His shit is big baby!“ (Tim Westwood) Next, armed with a tape of a new track he'd been working on which featured a seventy piece orchestra and a sixty strong choir singing the notorious rapper’s name, Adam met Redman after the rapper's gig in Los Angeles. Adam remembers, " He'd just come off stage, he had a towel round his head and he was smoking a blunt, and he was like, 'What the fuck they saying?' I explained they were singing 'Redman, Redman' and he said, 'How the fuck they know my name? This shit is crazy!'" (Adam F) Redman remembers, " Adam F? Yeah, he had the track already set out for me when I first got to hear it, so I had to come with mad momentum lyrically. It was like going into chaotic battle, where Adam F put out the bomb and I was on a mission to light it! It was nothing but raw power and energy, and it hit me straight away. Plus, when he played me the section with the choirs singing my name it was so ill! I was like ‘How the fuck did he get them to do that?’" (RedMan) By the time the track was finished, Redman said he wanted it for a single on his new album ‘Malpractice’. The track, appropriately titled ‘Smash Something’ was massive, throughout the summer of 2001 it was to be found in every DJ’s record box, and played at every club and festival both sides of the Atlantic. To no great surprise, by the end of the summer the track was a both a US club anthem and a top 5 hit in the UK national chart! Even though Adam had found some success in the States, working with the likes of LL Cool J, RedMan, Missy Elliot and Lady Luck, it wasn’t really until the release of Adam’s second album ‘KAOS’ that Adam’s innovative and innate talents were truly established worldwide. Adam’s incredible fusing of the various sounds to be found in the different genres of urban music, although chaotic, it was literally groundbreaking stuff. The album was full to the brim with superstar collaborations, artists involved included, LL Cool J, Redman, MOP, Capone ‘n’ Noreaga, De La Soul, Beenie Man, Pharoa Monch, Siamese, Carl Thomas and the mighty Guru. All of which had positive things to say about the project… " What can you say about Adam F? He's the bomb producer. 2001? It's over, believe it." (Beenie Man) " This shit is crazy! Adam F be doing it! The ‘KAOS’ project is BIG!" (Rockwilder) " When people hear this in a club it’s gonna be like whoa, that shit’s bananas! It’s like… it’s over man!"(RedMan) “ KAOS sounds like Puffy meets Rockwilder via Timbaland, chuck in a few Steven Spielberg movie soundtracks and some special FX and you’re halfway there!” Adam recalls the ‘KAOS’ experience and explains that the album was called ‘KAOS’ because the year and a half putting it together was complete creative chaos! “ I crafted the beats in studios in London and the South East, and flew with the tapes to New York where vocals were laid down before returning to my studio at home for mixing. All the vocalists had very different approaches to their work, C ’n’ N and Beenie Man had their crews in the studio jumping around to create an atmosphere, whereas De La Soul’s and Pharoah Monch’s sessions were more personal, just one on one the artists and me. They were all cool though…’ (Adam F) The album was a huge sensation, and soon after its release date most of the listed tracks were to be found on all the biggest DJ’s mix CD’s, including one of Adam’s favourites and arguably the world’s biggest hip-hop DJ, DJ Clue. As one might have predicted the ‘KAOS’ project only led to more chaos in Adam’s life, offers for the use of his masterful talents in production came from all across the globe. One of the first to contact Adam was the notorious DJ Flex from Hot 97 FM who wanted Adam’s instant involvement on his future projects. Adam was even approached and later commissioned to write and produce the full orchestral original score for the Ali G movie soundtrack! The last few years, post ‘KAOS’, have also seen Adam work with the likes of Alicia Keys, Ja Rule and even Metallica! It is important to note however, that during and before all this chaos, Adam has never left his roots behind, namely the UK drum&bass scene. Throughout his career, Adam has always continued to DJ drum&bass music all over the world, at various festivals and nightclubs to audiences as big as 40,000 people. (Ultra festival WMC) Whilst continuing to write a variety of quality drum&bass tunes for his recently established KAOS Recordings, a label structured to accommodate upcoming and well established producers alike. The label, as one has come to expect from Adam, has been a huge success although there other ways of monitoring its success than by purely looking at record sales and radio charts, as the label also holds a hugely popular monthly club night at arguably London’s best dance music venue Fabric, which regularly attracts more than two thousand devoted ‘KAOS’ fans. Adam also uses Fabric as a platform for some of his latest live projects, the most memorable of which being Adam’s performance alongside M.O.P, on their UK debut. In 2002 Adam did a worldwide four deck extravaganza tour alongside the notorious three times DMC champion DJ Craze, in order to promote his latest drum&bass project appropriately titled ‘Drum&Bass Warfare’. This time he collaborated with the best that Britain had to offer, artists included Goldie, Roni Size and Shy FX to name but a few. ‘Drum&Bass Warfare’ was an instant hit, and four of listed tracks even became UK top 40 hits. Although he had been absent for quite a while, ‘Drum&Bass Warfare’ immediately put Adam back at the top of his favourite of dance music scenes, and it wasn’t long before Kiss 100 FM, the UK’s biggest dance music station, offered Adam a weekly Saturday night prime time show. A radio show that Adam still purposefully uses today, to bring the underground sounds to a wider audience. In 2003, whist at the WMC in Miami, Adam struck a deal with another pioneer of drum&bass music and good friend Fresh from Bad Company. The pair decided that due to their obvious parallel passions something had to be done, and it had to be done together… The result was BreakBeat Kaos. Since its inception just 18 months ago, the label has already achieved unprecedented success, with all of its releases reaching number one in the BBC Radio 1 drum and bass sales chart, and a selection of the label’s releases have even reached number one in the UK dance chart. It’s also important to note that Adam has used his industry experience to sign Pendulum and Baron: two of the most exciting breakthrough artists the scene currently has on offer. Adam’s most notable releases on the BreakBeat Kaos imprint to date include the mighty ‘Junglesound EP’ which was one of the aforementioned that graced the top of the dance chart and more recently ‘Sun Goes Down’ featuring Adam on lead vocals - it was a track that received a whole host of positive attention from both press and radio alike and acted as the lead single to the label’s first compilation album ‘Junglesound – The Bassline Strikes Back’. Featuring all the members of the BreakBeat Kaos crew, as well as a whole host of special guests from throughout the scene, including Andy C, Ant Miles, Dillinja, DJ Craze and many more. It was no great surprise when the album was described by BBC Radio One’s Grooverider as ‘The Drum and Bass Album Of The Year!’. With this kind of support, it was again no great surprise when the record held on to the number one spot in the UK sales chart for four weeks! All this success on the dnb front does not mean that Adam’s innovative hip-hop beats have been put on the back burner, not at all, Adam’s life is truly scheduled around New York, as US demand for his production talents remains in abundance. Projects in the pipeline currently include extensive work on Redman’s new album. It is important to note that whatever it may be classified as, all of Adam F’s music comes from deep within him, from his emotions and moods. When you buy one of Adam’s albums, it is important to realise that you are buying into the last two or three years of his life, what he’s been inspired by and how he wants to express it, long may it continue… Last edited by spectrum; Mar 14, 05 at 07:03 PM. |

This is definately gonna be an incredible performance. Hands down!! Only one problem...... Doesn't anybody out there agree that Sonar is too small and that we need a new, bigger venue to accommodate these types of talent? That place gets sooooo packed on events like this that I don't even want to go!! But as a fellow producer, Adam F has got to be one of my biggest influences! Hope I can make it in before the masses...

How come on the spectrum website under the upcoming events it does not list Adam F there, could this be because its an April fools joke or that its just too far away for it to be posted on there yet. Spectrum could we please confirm this is not a joke. As much as I dont want it to be a joke, and dont think its a joke, could we just get you to. thanks! |
