DJ ZINC (True Playaz UK)!!! Tuesday May 17
automatic presents
DJ ZINC TRUE PLAYAZ/BINGO/GANJA/FRONTLINE/UK FIRST VANCOUVER APPEARANCE!!! DJ ZINC.com Zinc first got involved with drum & bass music in the early Nineties, Dj-ing on Pirate Radio stations. From there he became the Resident Dj for the London club night Desire (1992 – 1995), before making his first tunes with Swift in 1992. This developed into the eight volume "Swift and Zinc" series on Bizzy B's Progression label. In 1994 Zinc produced his first solo release, the undisputed 1995 anthem "Super Sharp Shooter," a fierce, energetic hip-Hop/Jungle fusion that is widely regarded as being a cornerstone in the Jungle scene. Zinc followed this with the hugely popular "6 Million Ways". Djing progressed steadily, playing out every weekend at the most successful Jungle/Drum and Bass clubs the world over, including Elevation, Desire, One Nation, World Dance, United Dance and Slammin’ Vinyl. Internationally Zinc has played all over the world - Japan, America, Canada, Brazil, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and every country in Europe. In 1996 Zinc made the much sought after bootleg mix of The Fugees' "Ready Or Not". Following this Zinc formed the True Playaz label with Pascal and DJ Hype. True Playaz and it's sublabels Ganja and Frontline have grown to be mammoths in the industry, putting out undisputed classic bass-heavy tunes at an astonishing rate. In 1997 True Playaz started a club night at the renowned London Club ‘The End’. In 2000 they moved it to super-club Fabric and it is currently the clubs most successful night to date. Zinc released "138 Trek" on True Playaz in 2000. This was intended as a down tempo bonus track on an EP. The attention he gained from this release, after it reached number 25 in the UK chart, encouraged him to continue working with different tempos, and saw him set up his own label Bingo to release non drum & bass music by himself and other artists. Bingo has since gone on to become a huge name in the breaks and garage world. Zinc's worked with a broad range of labels, both respected and virtually unknown, done time on the pirate radio circuit and DJ’d at some of the worlds’ most popular clubs. He's also been tapped for remix work for the likes of Kelis, Faithless, Beanie Man, Wookie, Santos, Congo Natty and Mobb Deep Now moving into album artist realm, Zinc’s highly anticipated debut LP "Faster" was released in 2003. With tempos ranging from downbeat hip-hop to high impact drum and bass and everywhere in between, the album was a hit with DJs all across the breakbeat spectrum and spawned single in multiple genres. TUESDAY MAY 17 The Lotus Sound Lounge 455 Abbott St. along for the ride: Jay-Auto, Matty Pacific, Dabbler, Bias, Myster.E MC Tickets $16 coming soon to Active Pass, Beat Street, Boomtown, On Deck and Zulu. Quote:
as for dj skills, while zinc IS supposed to be the shit, hype won the european dmc chamionship for scratching before he even got into drum and bass, so he'd be pretty hard to touch in that regard. |
