WHo's the real threat?

Drug criminal enforcer Omid Tahvili or anarchist David Cunningham of the DERA/APC junta now spending your tax dollars at Pendera public housing?

I vote neither: the BC LiberaLS CUT SCHOOL FUNDING!

They cut disability funding. They also cut funding to formerly publicly-funded old age homes, and let privatization reduce care to the elderly. In addition, healthcare is underfunded.

More proof that those rich fat cats voted into power are only in it to enrich the rich at the cost of the underclass!!!!

Or that they have found that money doesn't grow on trees like everyone expects.

Yes, it sucks when funding gets cut, but it's going to happen in any democratic system.

I'm sure if they raised taxes, people would be complaining that they are lining their pockets...

maybe you should check your facts before you make erroneous claims.

British Columbia Budgets

You could spend the entire budget on healthcare and the service would never be perfect.

Budget 2000 for Education
  • Tuition fees for colleges and universities are frozen for the fifth straight year.
  • An increase of $85 million to universities and colleges will restore core funding, help with the tuition freeze, and create 5,025 new student spaces, including 800 new high tech spaces.
  • 300 new teachers will be hired to further reduce class sizes in early K-12 grades.
  • School districts will receive $445 million towards the construction of over 100 new schools, additions and expansions. By spring 2001, there will be 1,900 portables, down from 3,091 in 1998.
Budget 2005 indicate a modest 15 percent increase over 2000. That's 3 percent a year which is less than COLA.

Total education spending, including K-12, advanced education and skills training, continues to increase each year and will reach $9.8 billion in 2007/08. That represents a $2 billion increase in annual spending since 2000/01.

Per pupil funding went up by 10 percent from about 6000 dollars to 6700 over 5 years.

That's 2 percent, and only rose because enrollment decreased from about 600,000 to just under 590,000. Very creative stats!

3.6 billion dollars in 2000.
3.95 billion in 2005

Actual increase: 350 million dollars over five years or 70 million a year.

That's an extra 116 dollars per student in 2000, and 118 dollars in 2005.

Very creative stats!

Really? You sure about that? Last time I checked, money is made of paper, which comes from... you guess it... trees.

Money is not property and no one can own it. All a wage earner owns is the right to spend it has she sees fit.

Technically, property doesn't actually exist in Canada. If you go through old laws, you'll find that we have the right to enjoy items. The catch is that you are not allowed to inhibit someone's enjoyment of an item, which is where theft comes from. (This post's disclaimer being that this was explained to me by someone researching loopholes in Federal law.)

And now you know.

only in an anarchy will we enjoy the right to ask people who ruin our buzz to share their bud with us.

however, if they choose to sell crack and meth to our kids, then they will have to repair the schools' roofs until they realize working for the Zapatista committee is way better than hardtime in a Canadian jail.

oh and if any drug dealer has gone pedo on us, the proper response is to employ his children as the people who harvest hash from the cannabis fields.
