No-Confidence in Canada
Stephen Harper Shuts Down Parliament to Avoid No-Confidence Vote : RushPRnews - Newswire & PR Distribution in U.S. & Canada
Stephen Harper Shuts Down Parliament to Avoid No-Confidence Vote December 5, 2008 Canadian PM announces that his recommendation to suspend Parliament has been approved, 04 Dec 2008 OTTAWA,CANADA(RushPRNews)12/05/08-Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has shut down parliament, sparing himself from a no-confidence vote that he was likely to lose. The move comes after Mr. Harper met for two hours Thursday with Governor General Michaelle Jean, who agreed to Mr. Harper’s request to suspend parliament until he can present a budget late next month. The unprecedented step comes less than two months after Mr. Harper’s re-election. The governor general, in a mostly ceremonial post, is the representative of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth, who is Canada’s head of state. Jean had to decide whether to suspend parliament or allow Mr. Harper to face the no-confidence vote on Monday. Opposition members decried the decision. Liberal leader Stephane Dion, who the opposition wants to replace Mr. Harper with, warned that only “monumental change” would keep his coalition from toppling the minority Conservative government, adding that Mr. Harper was “running away” from parliament. The leader of the New Democrats, Jack Layton, described Mr. Harper’s action as putting “locks on the door” of parliament. In a televised address Wednesday night, Mr. Harper pledged to use “every legal means” to stop an effort by opposition parties to oust him. The Liberals, New Democrats and the separatist Bloc Quebecois announced their coalition on Monday. They have accused Mr. Harper and the Conservatives of not doing enough to help Canadians cope with the global financial crisis. Canada’s ruling Conservative Party won the most seats in an October 14 election, but failed to win a majority of the 308 seats in parliament.` |

Your retarted, its far from fascism. I hate to tell you but the majority of canadians do not support the coalition government and would rather see the conservatives, who we just elected, continue to lead. Dont believe me? Head back to the other thread for some links to stats.
But yeah, thankyou for making another thread, between the news and the very vocal people who do support the coalition, im still not sure if i hear enough about this. The Happy stay quiet but the angry protest? Sounds like that works well for this. |

globeandmail.com: Rae bows out of Liberal race
Looks like the liberals are trying to actually promote some form of solidarity behind Ignatieff. Might be too little too late but it's a start. Incidentally, Ignatief was initially against the coalition but fell into party lines shortly after... |

Harper is just another blunt tool in a box of broken wrenches. If it weren`t for the queen`s aproval, he`d be out of office. Dion`s a fucking tool too. The whole fucking government is corupt, it`s all bullshit.

Members of Parliament are sworn in to office by reciting and signing this oath of allegiance:
I, (the member) , do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors. So help me God. The oath of the members of the Privy Council: I, (P.C.) , do solemnly and sincerely swear that I shall be a true and faithful servant to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, as a member of Her Majesty's Privy Council for Canada. I will in all things to be treated, debated and resolved in Privy Council, faithfully, honestly and truly declare my mind and my opinion. I shall keep secret all matters committed and revealed to me in this capacity, or that shall be secretly treated of in Council. Generally, in all things I shall do as a faithful and true servant ought to do for Her Majesty. So help me God. And those are contrails too...HAHAHA! |
