2Sinners at Seks THIS WEEK! (June 19)
Seks Wednesdays @ the Drink Nite Club 398 Richards Street
This Week, 20Hz and Pound are proud to present 2Sinners (TCR,2S2,release//UK) in their debut Vancouver performance, with residents fluid and sodapop. An event not to be missed! doors at 9, $7 b4 10/ $9 after! And as always, cheap drinks! 2Sinners are DJ Klaus Hill and producer Carl Hovland, who came together in 1998 through mutual dealings in the drum & bass world. Klaus was working at Main Source and Carl is part of the Usual Suspects on Renegade Hardware who produced the phenomenal track ‘Killer Bees’. Originally producing as Tek Ed, the duo found acclaim through their releases on Botchit & Scarper, though its in the guise of 2Sinners that Klaus and Carl have gained most attention, firstly with ‘Second Thoughts’ on Mechanoise and ‘Of This Feeling/Shatter’ on Rennie Pilgrem’s prolific breaks label, TCR, then with the first two releases on their own label, 2S2. These two 2Sinners tracks, ‘What’s Been Going On?’ and ‘Patterns’, are characteristic of the 2S2 label, with flawless production, blending furious breaks and strings together with vocal samples and stabs, creating tracks that feel deep and musical but are still great floor fillers. The duo’s move from drum & bass was born from a love of the sound of breaks that’s been fuelled by the slower tempo and greater freedom to experiment. They were quick to experiment with 2 step breaks, as in the recent Shara Nelson remix, but it’s with house and deep breaks that the duo really shine. It’s tracks like the third 2S2 release ‘Siberia’ which really stand out as unique. The 2Sinners have honed a sound that can really only be described as deep breaks. Although the guys are reluctant to pigeon hole their sound, they describe it as “kind of deep and also kind of dark. Dancefloor but trying to keep it musical as well.” Klaus is also greatly in demand as a DJ playing breaks and house. He plays regularly at drum & bass night New Horizons, Chew The Fat, Ram records at The End and he has a resident spot on Ministry Of Sound radio. He’s pleased with how the scene seems to be growing at home and internationally. “The increasing amount of support from both 2 step and house DJs can only be taken as a sign of how well things are at the moment and is a positive message of things to come.” ---------------------------- Check out Seks weekly, Wednesdays at the Drink Upcoming events: June 26th : Kick It Pre-Party!!!
