Unite the Underground Round II - April 25th, 2003
Time for some cheez with pbreak:
One year has passed since “Unite the Underground”, the first in what will hopefully be a series of innovative music events with its main objective the lowering of social barriers that lye between music genres and scenes. It was our first event and essentially became the foundation for the mindset of our company. The idea was/is that the underground music scene in general is much more productive and vibrant when it acts as a single community made up of different genres and scenes, instead of a bunch of segregated, autonomous scenes that lack the immense amount of imagination, creativity and inspiration that would otherwise be available to them from the greater community. As well, the community itself lacks the imagination, creativity and inspiration that could be provided from those who find themselves segregated. The goal with these events is aimed at creating a viable platform from which a united, underground community can be created on a foundation of integrity and respect. Are these aspirations a little zealous, perhaps even a little naive? Most certainly, but hey - we’ve got to at least try. And this isn’t to say there isn’t already a community out there, chock full of dedicated people with similar aims as our own – because there is, we’re just trying to do our part. On that note, Fundamental Productions association with Homeschooled Records are very pleased to be bringing you the second installment of the “UtU” series, coming this 25th of April, 2003: Unite the Underground - Round II Drum 'n' Bass vs. Hip Hop With two rooms alternating between genres, you get the best of both worlds. D'n'B Qzen (groundscore/eklectic) - One of San Fransisco's pre-eminent D'n'B djs and co-producer of the city's hottest D'n'B weekly, this girl's been rippin it up on the West Coast for some time now, taking listeners on a ride through the best of breakbeat with an ear for deftly matching melodies and top-notch programming. Psidream (breakbeatscience/nerve/killahertz) - With a background consisting of eight years of training in both classical and jazz piano, he's well schooled in the nature of music as fine art. This fact is evident in both his track selection during mix sets and his talent for constructing his own tunes. Ill-esha (Ph1.ca/breakbeatscience) – This lady has performed with names like Dieselboy, DB and the Usual Suspects – and with her now trademark style of singing, MCing and spinning simultaneously she may even have shown them a thing or two. Also featuring: Mechwarrior (junglepunks/Intellect/overload radio) K-Pryde (sugar & spice) Soma (fundamental/homeschooled) Hip Hop Matt the Alien (C1rca) – A local mainstay at Tommy Africa's and Maxx Phish in Whistler, this guy is well known for his own styling blend of d'n'b and hip hop... a combination that just might work at this event. Dj Sets (FWUH/Dirty Deeds/Sauce) - Between Friday nights at Sonar, Saturday's at 7 Alexander, Sets has quietly been making a name for himself in the hip hop community - but don't worry, his set will be anything but quiet! Form & Kaos (form-kaos.com – duh!) – Tag teamin on the old skool funk, these boys'll show ya why they deserve an entire forum named after em. Precise (AGROculture/Twisted/Funkboiiz) – Throwing some old skool hippity hop and breaks your way. More TBA… Tickets will be available for $15 until April 6th, so make sure you pick them up soon at any of the following ticket locations: Boomtown (Van) Futuristic Flavour (Van) Beatstreet (Van) Hipnotik Records (New West) Zulu (Van) Tix - $15 until April 6th $20 until April 20th $25 week of…. more at the door For out of towners, tickets will be $20 ($15 US for Americans) at the door with ID. Quick update: Pre-party will be at Tribeca on April 24th featuring some of the djs (not sure who yet), but come on out for awesome food and beverage specials. As well, limited tickets are left for the event so make sure you run down to your nearest ticket location soon or it'll be a sad day in mudville for you. |
