Unfortunately, the roads around stave lake weren't built for any specific purpose other than access to the abundance of trees and rocks up there. As it stands right now, it's free for anyone to use, and unpatrolled. Another unfortunate fact is that there is not ONE area within a decent radius of the vancouver area that is free for use for the simple purpose of throwing parties, the police don't like it because it's "unsafe" and the people don't like it because it's noisy. I 4x4 too, in fact i got my truck nice and dirty up in stave yesterday, and i loved it, it's a great place to go for a drive, but, unfortunately for you, the area is pretty much perfect for outdoor parties as well, there's no real residents to complain to the police, and even if there were, i'm sure not many cops fancy going for a drive up there just to tell a bunch of kids to turn down the music... i frankly don't see how this kind of response from a member of another community that frequently utilizes stave lake for it's own purposes is going to stop people from doing things OTHER than 4x4ing up there. You don't own it, and neither do we, so don't try and act like you do, we're not the ones torching cars and burning gas up there, we come, set up a sound system on a friday or saturday night, trample the dirt with our feet a little, and then pack it up and leave (and i can assure you that i would leave less garbage up there than a crew of 4x4ers from slurrey who don't give a fuck like eminem) I hope you check this, and if you want to get back to me, my e-mail and MSN contact is greenwire69@hotmail.com

As well, many of my "faggot" friends who happen to be from the Mission/Maple Ridge area 4 by up there constantly and yet for some reason don't seem to feel that they own the area either. I could have sworn the road was built in the first place to access a hydro-electric tunnel between Alouette and Stave lakes, but I could be wrong - they could have put a very well kept road 30km back into the mountains simply for the pleasure of 4x4 ensuthiasts.
The area belongs to everyone, and we're perfectly willing to share it with you - but if you still have a problem maybe we'll have to run you over with our bigger truck. Have a nice day.

There are the people that do it right and then there are the idiots that don't seem to give a shit. I do believe that the 4x4 club is probably very responsible with regard to respecting the area, especially being a group that frequents it regularly. But there are also many people outside of your club - and that have nothing to do with us - that propagate the unorganised partying (which I'm sure happens on a much larger scale than ours) with large amounts of alcohol comsumption and the fighting which usually occurs at many Maple Ridge/Mission gatherings of that nature. Not to mention some of the psychos that seem to think they're rally drivers and are going 120Km/h right down the middle of the main road, and even racing each other at times. My thinking is that it's that kind of crap that goes on all year long that is much more of an issue than the 1 or 2 raves that might gone on there in a year.
The Stave lake area is basically the last spot in the lower mainland that isn't near any residential areas, is reasonably accessible and isn't a reserve. There are a few of us (promoters) who enjoy the area and are only interested in using it responsibly. So instead of completely blocking off what is very much public land (and pissing a lot of people off in the process since such a solution really only has the interests of one group in mind), I think it would be much more benificial for whoever uses the area to possibly get together and at least try to work something out, possibly simply limiting access somehow. I'm assuming the 4x4 club is talking to BC Hydro - do you have any info of the people in the club or at BC Hydro so we might be able to get ahold of them? I'm hoping that there can be a fair solution for everyone, and as far as your truck goes - I'm sure it is much bigger than mine since I don't even have one.

Kraqua: No, i can't speak for everyone else, but when i say i don't leave garbage up there, i mean if i go up there and see garbage, i don't leave without it in the back of my truck. Also, lets not turn this into a pissing contest of who has the bigger truck, i'm sure you can go right ahead and do that with all your 4x4 buddies on your own message board. All we want to do is share the area, and keep it open for use. If you enjoyed the music i'm sure you'd have a good time at some of the events up there, not eveyone is high, not everyone is a fag, in fact, most of the people are pretty nice.. keep an open mind, you're bound to learn a lot more.

you know what that fine, you go up there and pick up your shit, but there are alot of people that go up there and don't and it ruins it for the rest of us, i don't go up there to "ripe shit up" ever herd of tread lightly??? so many times i go up there and see the remains of a bunch of idiots struin about the flats. it pisses me right off. loz of our favorit trails have been closed due to idiots messin shit up. just trying to aware people of the damage they can cause.
