Dayglow 2 ^^ august 11th ^^ free party/protest
DAYGLOW 2
August 11, 2001, 3pm-8pm at the Vancouver Art Gallery (outside). dj's include :: Miss Innocent The Trance Proffessors Mark Paul Nemo come have fun, let your hair down and play. presented by silverfish studios with sound provided by crazy daves crew. heres a copy of the press release, which was necessary to get away with doing this because it's illegal: DAYGLOW 2 PRESS RELEASE On March 17, I presented the extremely well received and publiciesed party/protest dubbed Dayglow. The intent was to offer Greater Vancouver youth the chance to participate in something they love: building a positive community around the love of music. Sadly it seems as though our efforts were in vain, as the rights of youth continue to be snubbed by our No Fun City. Curfews are still in place. Bylaws against dancing and all age late night events continue to be implemented (surrey, new west, etc). One thing after another is taken away, and yet no alternatives are provided. Elected Officials continue to make decisions in their own best interests, with out ever consulting with the youth who will be effected. When was the last time a local Mayor or city Councilor ever rallied youth together to find out what is on their minds? What their concerns are? What they felt about the community? When was the last time any Mayor or Councilor met face to face with youth to try and communicate and bridge the generation gap? In my many discussions with local Mayors and Councilors, the attitude had been that youth are a liability, they suck up city funds and put very little back. They rarely vote and therefore they are not worth any time or effort. In light of this continued mistreatment, I am once again hosting a Dayglow. On August 11, from 3pm to 8pm outside the Vancouver Art Gallery, I anticipate several thousand youth and young adults to participate in this party/protest. I am paying for this entirely out of my own pocket because I feel passionately about the youth in my community. Some of Vancouver's top young DJ's will be performing live sets for the crowd, with styles including Techno, Trance, Acid and Hard House. Performers include Miss Innocent, Nemo, Mark Paul and the Trance Proffessors. I have also arranged for youth oriented non profit groups to set up tables with information and activities. Greater Vancouver youth have discovered a way in which everyone is treated with respect and friendliness. Regardless of race, age, sexuality, religion or class, it is the love of the music and the self expression of the movement which has brought us together. Adults could learn a lot from us, but instead the No Fun City chooses to strangle us in red tape and break up our rich community. Dayglow 2 is open to anyone, all are welcome provided you treat us with respect we will honor you. >>>>this post was originally posted by silverfish on LX<<<< |
