Xmas Funk Styles Getdown
Hey everyone,
This is for everyone in the FUNK STYLES community! you may know already, but if you don't, theres a few jam sessions coming up the week of christmas! Here's the itinerary: SUNDAY, DEC 21st: 2pm afternoon- Garage Getdown! Located near joyce station skytrain. Big speakers, smooth concrete floor, and some mirrors too. SUNDAY, DEC 21st: 9pm- Richards club(on richards st. downtown). There is the long weekend fubar night, and there will be a hiphop competition -$1000 prize. Sorry, this doesnt apply for anyone under 19 Sorry :P TUESDAY, DEC 23rd: 10pm- Barnone club(in yaletown). LIVE FUNK BAND. This group has been playing every monday and tuesday at barnone the past 5 years. I have been to a couple of the nights and they are the real thing. If you are over 19, definately come to this night!!! WEDNESDAY, DEC 24th: 1pm- The Downtown Getdown. We're bringing it to the streets (literally) and we're going to jam in a couple spots in the downtown area. We will meet at the outdoor icerink (robson square). Bring your funk, bring a ghettoblaster if you have one, but most importantly, BRING A COAT AND GLOVES :P FRIDAY, DEC 26th: 1pm- GARAGE GETDOWN or DOWNTOWN GETDOWN II- depending on which spot people like better, thats where we'll go. But the jam is definately on, no matter where we go! ALSO... we'll be having some special guests from out of town who might come jam with us! They are Miko and Colin, both from calgary. Miko, who is part of the FULL FLAVA crew, has taken class from the likes of Don Cambpell(creator of LOCKING!!), the ELECTRIC BOOGALOOS (you know who they are). Colin, well, he used to do shows with the EB's back in the day. Nuff' said :P The music we'll be playing will of course be funk, some gangster beats, and whatever else you like to get down to. For the clubnights, hit up www.clubzone.com and apply for guestlist, which can hopefully get you and one other guest in for FREE! Whether you pop, boog, lock, wave, tut, liquid, bop, robot, or even if you've never heard of some of these styles, come jam with us! It's all about sharing and expressing what we love to do! Yeah, definitely a great week for people intrested in the Popping/ Boogaloo dance styles.
In my opinion Popping is the hottest dance style around today, and its getting bigger and better every year. We got a pretty dope Funk Style scene growing here in Vancouver...I expect all of you who are intrested in this dance, beginner or someone whos been doing it for awhile to come out to at least one or two of these get downs. I'll be there for almost all of them, lotta experienced dancers going be there I plan on learning so much, and having a blast too. If anyone wants some more info, or anything like that hit up Jamieson, at his email above you'll never meet a nicer guy for reals. DIRECTIONS TO GARAGE GETDOWN!:
From Joyce Skytrain Station: Once you get off the skytrain and go down the stairs (either side), head south down joyce st. (towards kingsway). You will pass by a large church on your right side, make a right on euclid st. continue heading down euclid, you will pass a small park. Make a RIGHT onto spencer st (it is the st before rupert). I am on the corner of spencer and austrey(house # 5024).. the entrance is on austrey! So. go south down joyce, right on euclid, right on spencer. gimme an email if you need help!
