Fiji Islander 2004 - Featuring: Rascalz, AMP, DjSupahfly, Sevenlies, DanMangan, more!
FIJI ISLANDER 2004
APRIL 30th 2004 - It begins ... Just as exams come to an end comes the biggest party of the year! Anyone who’s attended previous Islander parties knows the sheer insanity of this event. Join thousands of young exciting college students at a huge celebration of music and dancing. With over 8 acts, 60 kegs , and a gigantic sound system, Islander promises to be an event not to be missed. FEATURING: Rascalz Rascalz, first broke ground in 1993, with their debut album "Really Livin". The title track won Best Rap Video at The MuchMusic Video Awards, and put them on the map as major players in the world of Canadian hip hop. Their sophomore effort, Cash Crop, was released in 1997. The album won a Juno award for Best Rap Recording, and the track "Dreaded Fist", garnered the group another MuchMusic video award (Best Rap video). During the release of Cash Crop, Rascalz united fellow Hip Hop artists from across Canada, to participate in the groundbreaking track and video for Northern Touch, The all-star performance was a preview of what was about to blow. It included the likes of Kardinal, Checkmate, Thrust and Choclair. Rascalz would break ground in Urban music again in 1998, when they publicly refused their Juno Award (Best Rap Recording for Cash Crop), in protest to the Juno award system, which had not yet acknowledged the Urban music categories in their televised broadcasts. The protest was heard loud and clear — the following year, Rascalz performed Northern Touch, with all the aforementioned guest appearances, on the live, televised broadcast of the Juno awards. They won the 1999 Juno Award that year for Best Rap Recording, Northern Touch. "Reloaded", their new cd, crosses boundaries of sound Rascalz have only just begun to explore. With a huge range of beats and an expansive emotional territory to cover, it’s difficult to say where this CD belongs in the hip hop pantheon… AMP Vancouver's hottest new hiphop group are already burning up the charts with their hit remix of "Seven Nation Army". Anger Management Project began by getting small playtime on 94.5 The Beat while waiting for the legal rights for their first single. Upon releasing their title track, the group exploded to the top of Canadian music charts. Dj Supafly Born in Whakatanne, New Zealand, Supafly came to Canada with his folks ata very young age. He was forced to grow up in a hurry with the loss of his father when he was 12 years old. Supafly clains to have made it an early mission to have a music collection of all hip hop tapes and video's on the market. Supafly began DJ'ing at the age of 15 in school/party settings and began doing club gigs at 17. He has worked for some of the most successful hip hop nights for the past 7 years. Before being a DJ, Supafly was an honours student and had early aspirations of being a doctor...but couldn't pass up his love for music.Supafly joined The Beat 94.5 FM family in February of 2002 as a mix show DJ and has since been promoted as the Mix-Show Coordinator with his eyes set on one day being a music director in the urban radio industry. Seven Lies Vancouver’s “Seven Lies” is the next Canadian rock band ready to hit the international music scene. With their high energy, guitar and vocal driven resonance, the band creates melodic hooks with a hint of 80’s flavor. Dave, Jackson, Morgan, Graham, Murray and Chris meld many different musical flavours into a cohesive unique sound. Influenced by such bands to name just a few as The Cars, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana and Depeche Mode. This devoted group of musicians has their focus set with their unique rock sound, and are ready to take on the world! Their well-crafted song writing and musicianship, along with a live show that contains more high-energy than a 6 pack of Red Bull, makes them the band to be watched in 2004. Dave Bowman - Formerly of "soulDecision" and Co-founder of "Seven Lies" - Vocals, Guitar After many years of success with soulDecision Dave needed to follow his own path, and for the past year has been working on a new album with Jackson. A brand new sound evolved over this time, along with this brand new start. Response from the industry and fans has been overwhelmingly supportive and greatly appreciated by Dave. Jackson - Co-founder of "Seven Lies" - Vocals, Keyboards Jackson, a long time friend of Dave, spent the last year writing the Seven Lies album with Dave. The combination of Jackson's and Dave's contrasting musical backgrounds, created a complimentary environment that pushed the two to new levels. Murray Atkinson - Guitar Murry is a experienced musician with over 15 years on the guitar. His explosive stage presence and rock star guitar style, mirrors the great guitar players of the past. He has also opened up for such artists as Theory of a Dead Man, Colin James, Wide Mouth Mason, the Swollen Members, and The Crash Test Dummies. Graham Pence - Guitar Graham has been playing in various bands for the past 8 years, and has developed a devoted following. Known for his unique playing style, he brings a depth rarely found in music today. Morgan Littlejohn - Bass Morgan, a musician for 12 years, is known for his laid back playing style that has a feel of its own. Among his many other talents, he plays at least eight different instruments. Chris Glover - Drums Formerly with the Henry Small Band (Henry Small was the lead singer of Prism, and worked with members of the Who and Loverboy. On the drums since he was eight years old, Chris brings ROCK back to rock and roll. www.sevenlies.com Dan Mangan Dan Mangan is a Vancouver based acoustic alternative musician in the style of Jack Johnson or Damien Rice. Raised in a family of musicians whose record player got little rest from The Beatles, Paul Simon or Van Morrison, Dan quickly took to the piano and later the guitar. At age sixteen, he formed a band and put the melodies in his head to paper. Since then, Dan has continued to grow as a songwriter and a singer who values the creative integrity of timeless music. Dan has extensive experience performing in front of live audiences. His live show can include the accompaniment of a full band or, for more intimate venues, simply himself with/without the compliment of hand drums. With enough original material to please any booking manager, Dan can easily deliver sets as long as an hour and a half. His music combines powerful lyrics, raw emotion and addictive guitar melodies to inspire audiences of any age. His songs are filled with a passion that encourages reflection on all that is harsh and beautiful in the everyday. He can bring an audience to their feet or to quiet contemplation. In a musical era littered with overly manipulated and manufactured music, Dan Mangan is a breath of fresh air. www.danmanganmusic.com Doors Open At 7PM - 15$ Presale Tickets ( 20$ Afterwards ) - All Ages Event( 19+ Permitted In Beer Garden Only :sixpak: ) - Visit ticketmaster.ca for Ticket and Concert Info !! oh, hehe ...
well for all those who haven't been to islander, it's a tropical themed party. All the floor is covered in sand, there's tropical tree's and tiki torches everywhere. Even little wooden tiki men. There's a giant volcano at the top of the main stage which spews smoke during the night. The light set up makes the whole room seem like a tropical paradise. Then you mix in the cheap drinks flowing left and right, the beautiful people all dressed up in tropical gear, makes for a fun time. |
