EXTREMELY Important SPOOKY/CARGO Update
From Kraig:
My apologies everyone for the delay in getting this up... as you will see, it was A LOT of information to gather and I wanted to ensure you had EVERYTHING. ________________________________________ _________________________ IMPORTANT SPOOKY UPDATE Released: Tuesday, October 26th at roughly 7PM Spooky 9 will now be combined with the DJ Sneak CARGO event and will be held at Plush Nightclub / The Showroom at the Plaza of Nations grounds as a 19+ licensed (liquor served) event running from approximately 9PM to 4AM with daylight savings time on Saturday, October 30th, 2004. ------------------------------- SO WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING? During its 8 year tenure, Spooky has always been one of Vancouver's most celebrated annual electronic music festivals spanning an entire generation of partiers. Swing Kids Entertainment and Twisted Productions (who joined the Spooky team in 2000) have worked hard over the years to always provide new and interesting venues and talent to showcase to the masses. Over these years we have seen the party scene transform and take many new directions as new laws and new attitudes take shape. This year, as the Plaza of Nations Enterprise Hall was shut down as a viable venue, it put us on the path of finding the next great venue. This was a difficult task as it not only involved finding a suitable venue who's management approved the all night use, but also one where the government officials would approve too. We thought we had come up with a suitable plan, and that was combining some of the rooms on the Plaza of Nations grounds, including Plush Nightclub, the Showroom, and the upstairs rooms of Club Nations. As many of you know, we submitted our plans to the City of Vancouver back in late August, and found out on September 29th that we were not able to use the three rooms of Club Nations due to "zoning regulations," hence the cut back from 5 rooms to 2. From this point, we still went ahead with the de-licensing of Plush and the Showroom, meaning we would have temporary use of these usually 19+ venues as all-ages venues. At the same time, we were attempting to complete the standard permit process that all legal all-night raves must go through. From our understanding, this was all the necessary work that had to be done to make Spooky an all night, all ages, legal event. On Friday, October 22, we were informed that there was a third step that needed to be completed, but it was a step that was out of our hands and on the part of the Provincial Government. This was a discretionary step, meaning it was at there will. This step involved whether or not the Provincial Government would allow the extended hours of the club to go until 8AM, a step that usually only the City oversees. On Monday, October 25th, we were informed that the Provincial Government had decided not to allow the event to go past 3AM. In all of our years of throwing literally hundreds of events, we have never had to outright cancel a show, especially one of such magnitude as Spooky. We worked tirelessly through Monday night to come up with a suitable solution to make the show still happen. We explored the option of many new venues with the help of the City of Vancouver, but with such a short time frame we could not come up with another. So we had to make the decision to either cancel the show, or run it within the guidelines permitted. At the same time, the CARGO party with DJ Sneak was having issues with it's venue as well, so it was decided between all, that the two shows would join forces to create one big party with a 19+ age restriction. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? The resulting show will no doubt be a sell out event showcasing not only world class talent from Spooky's line-up, but also the amazing house music legend DJ Sneak. The event will run from 9PM with the liquor being served until 3AM and doors and music off between 4-4:30AM with daylight savings time. It will feature two rooms, the main room being Plush and the second room being the Showroom. The upstairs balcony / mezzanine in Plush will also be open which has an additional bar. Both the Spooky & CARGO teams promise to put full emphasis into the production, visuals, and props. For anyone that has attended a Spooky or CARGO event before, they are always legendary shows -- the two combined should be even more spectacular. REFUNDS: We apologize for the inconvenience, especially to anyone who was planning on attending who is under the legal age of 19 -- FULL refunds will be issued to all of these people. As well, for attending Spooky ticket holders that purchased there tickets for $55+, a partial refund will be issued to make up for the shortened hours of operation. For Spooky refunds, please send your Spooky tickets along with a piece of paper with your full name, address/postal code and point of purchase. Please note that ALL ticket numbers have been recorded and will be cross referenced to avoid forgeries or counterfeit attempts. Please address your envelopes as follows: SPOOKY REFUNDS PO Box 4364 Station Terminal Vancouver, B.C., V6B 3Z7 *** For a full refund, you must have sent in your tickets and the above information post-marked” NO LATER than midnight, November 15th, 2004. – This is TWO full weeks. WANTING TO PURCHASE A TICKETS TO SEE DJ SNEAK AND MORE? If one still needs to purchase tickets for the event, they can go the Ticketmaster website which is www.ticketmaster.ca and search for “Sneak.” FINALLY… We have all experienced these bumps in the road over the years as we try and make the general public and the "powers at be," accept that all-night parties and electronic music are not just underground, but a way of life around the world. We ask for your understanding and hope that you continue to support Swing Kids, Twisted, and CARGO events as you have all done in the past. Thanks for all your patience, understanding and continued support – Salim, Azim, Kraig, Avana, Dennis, Ami and Savio. Cheers and Happy Halloween! ...something wicked this way comes.... |
