The first DJ battle of 2002 is happening this Grande Wednesday at Sonar 66 Water St. If you want to see some turntablists go off with the cuts, scratches, beat juggling and back to backs, come on down. This will all be taking place upstairs with GMAN, Physik, and Wax spinning in the main room.



Formula Thursdays at Element has been taking off very nice. Thanks to all those that have come down to support the real hip hop. For those that have not come down yet, check it out as it will offer something a little different from the norm. Lil Jaz (DMC, ITF Champ and Nelly Furtado’s DJ) and City Planners have been confirmed for the first shows there.



Big up all those that came to see the Elimidate TV show that got filmed inside of Wettbar on Friday. All I can say is I can’t wait to see it (airing sometime 1st week of February channel 12, KVOS at 6pm). We did our best to clown and shout our names in the mic, and play our local Canadian tunes like Checkmate and Swollen Members while they were filming so it should be funny. I can’t believe we had the whole stage dancing with their shirts off. Some of the ladies are crazy for sure (they had under garments). They are filming another episode inside Grande Wednesdays at Sonar on Jan.23 so if you missed the Wettbar, come to Sonar.

Method Man and Redman “How High” Soundtrack- it’s like the best of CD with some new bangers. I have most the tracks on here but to have it all on one CD is hype. Nice to have Canadian artist Saukrates too.

No Doubt “Rocksteady”- wasn’t really a No Doubt fan, but this girl has such mad style. With production from reggae giants Sly & Robbie, Steely & Clivie it sounds nice. Prince produces and it has appearances by Bounty and Lady Saw too. Something different anyways.

Swollen Members, Jay-Z “Unplugged”, and Nas albums still in hot rotation.

1200 lbs and Numark present the 1st DJ Battle of 2002. 1st Prize Numark S-12 Mixer, 2nd Prize Shure M44-7, 3rd Prize Headphones. Special guest DMC and ITF champion DJ G-NIUS. 11pm start time upstairs and call Layz at 604-735-1200 to enter.

The r&b, hip-hop, reggae will be in the main room with DJs GMAN, Wax, and guests.

After the success of the Elimidate filming at Wettbar, they have decided to do a filming at Sonar as well.

23-year-old Lil Jaz began DJing at the age of 15. Over the next 5 years he went on to win 3 Toronto DMC Titles, a Canadian DMC Title, placed in the top 10 at the 98 World DMC Championships and acquired ITF Western Hemisphere and World Beat Juggling Titles. Doing showcases and rocking parties worldwide, Lil’ Jaz began to establish himself as an all around DJ with great knowledge for music and vinyl manipulation. In 2000/2001, Jaz hooked up with friend and singer Nelly Furtado to begin touring as her DJ. With Jaz’s skills and innovation he has successfully merged with her touring band using the turntables has his instrument, playing shows world-wide. Don't miss Lil’ Jaz's first Vancouver appearance in over a year and a half!

City Planners is a Vancouver based hip hop crew consisting of Sichuan, Jeff Spec, Ishkan, Sweet G, and Moka Only. The crew is featured in URB magazine's Next 100 issue (May 2001), the well respected publications annual prediction of which artists will be the next to blow up. Look out for City Planners current releases, Ishkan and Sweet G's "Ripper Writs" (Legendary Entertainment) and Jeff Spec's "Dark City" (Day By Day). Come check City Planners tear the roof off of the Element Sound Lounge as they kick off our Formula Live Series (which takes place the last Thursday of every month).
