Hey everybody
Name's Justin.
Got this site from a friends neighbor and thought I'd check it out. I'm brand spanking new to the DJ scene, but I'm interested in learning more and furthering my hobby of playing/listening/mixing music. So, any words of wisdom, welcome, what have you would be great. My first question would be... Where could I pick up some decent used equipment to get myself started? Cheers Everyone! |

I would highly suggest Craigslist.
what're you looking for in terms of equipment? Turntables, CD decks? Software (Torq, Serato) Live (Ableton) you could find a decent setup for $1000.00, i would stay away from 2 channel "beginner' mixers, If your hobbie takes over your life, you're going to want to get a better mixer and probably some effects. Don't post an ad on craigslist stating you're a noob, you'll get ripped off. there's plenty of people on this site that will give you the best recommendation and outstanding reviews. i would suggest surfing cl, then post what you might be interested in. (99% of the other time, im a big asshole) |

Well, i dont want to sound like a nasty nazi
but everything is going digital today.. i suggest picking up 500 records, to justify the amount of tracks you will be downloading eventually. Esp. if you're like me.. i've been djing 10 years. and to this day I cannot spin just one genre. wow, 10 years.. nothing to show for it. :( IM GOING TO SPIN EMO! GUsTO WILL LIKE ME THEN! |

exactly.
but coke and pepsi, either one will still be around. it's even easier to put out an mp3 than a record.. i hate to say it.... records will soon be obselete (sp?) look at bassix, remix and boomtown. they had a good run except for remix. closed down due to lack of sales. |

my "collection" is a CD case wrapped in body armor and submerged in fire retardant. It can repair its own fabric and has memory fibers. there are also nano machines on patrol killing moths and shit. There is a carbon padlock on the 2 zippers and I plan on housing it in 3 safes each in each other when the shit hits the fan. It will be housed in the Titanic |

I haven't had any experience with Torq or Serato, like I said, I'm pretty green. However I have spent quite a bit of time over the past several months with Ableton Live and found that easy to use. But, I appreciate the info guys, and I'll peruse the sites you guys mentioned and likely, I'll be back to pick your brains. Cheers |
