hey everybody
Hi everybody,
I moved over to vancouver fairly recently from the island. The long story short: I`ve been listening to the music for a few years now, and have been passively interested in trying my hand at mixing. Now I`m actually looking for gear and want to start. I`m mainly into drum+bass, breaks, house, dubstep, and hiphop (yeah...lots, I know!) If anyone has some kit for sale they might be interested in selling, drop me a line! I`m thinking vinyl over cd at the moment to try it out. PS: if anybody would be interested in giving some tips sometime, I`d supply beer. -Jeff |

Honestly, to begin with I'm hoping to find some cheapish used vinyl to play on the tables for now.
Then when I Serato it up, I'll have the option of vinyl or digital, and still get to use my tt's. probably grab a midi too.... lol, this is what I've planned from my zero experience and some reading anyways Other than the portability and maintenance I see no reason to go cdj over vinyl with serato. edit: and yes, I would eventually like to learn to scratch. |

I would discourage CDJ's myself, and choose serato/vinyl route. Best of all worlds as you can mix back and forth between wax and digital, and if you can't afford the wax then digital it is! plus burning CD's, and swapping them while playing is not worth it. And at this [late] point in the [dj'ing] game I would recommend only buying the timeless shit on wax.

I imagine that every DJ serious about playing out and making a name for himself does. You have to keep up with the latest tracks and keep your sets fresh every time. You also have to stand apart from others, so when a track you play is played twice a show, it's time to put it on the shelf and dig around for that next gem. DJing is definitely a hobby that, on average, costs more than it will ever earn.

LET'S BE HONEST HERE PEOPLE. 80% of the people who replied to you would just bash your djing if they were to ever see you play... as they are not looking to make "NEW" friends but to impress their old homies and ps your initial post conveys to Jay aka Dabbler that u are a "mark" to sell his old vinyl as we all know it's useless rubbish. touche

Definitely one of the best to learn from in Vancouver. Especially if that knack for track selection rubs off.
