if it's dirt. get a vinyl cleaner....gruv glide is the only way to go imo....
if it's a scratch, the only way to fix it is something i really wouldn't recommend...
IF.... big IF, you have an OLD stylus lying around (that still works kinda) put that on the cartridge, and as you slowly push the record past the scratch, PUSH DOWN ON THE NEEDLE.
the idea is to re-cut the groove,
however the risks involved are multiple...
1) you might make it worse
2) you WILL ruin the needle (but this is why you keep the old ones when they are 'worn out') you never know when you might need them for something
3) you will ruin that part of the record that you are pushing down on. the groove will be recut (hopefully), but the highs will disappear as you flatten the groove (the highs are on the top of the groove)
but if successful, then it should play thru the scratch so at least you can mix thru it.
again, i wouldn't recommend doing this without understanding that you may be left with a worthless needle, and a worthless record (but that song is worthless if it's scratched anyways)
but i have done this successfully a few times.
try cleaning it first tho, hell i even take my fingernail and GENTLY try to pick off the part that is stuck on there before i resort to the above...
good luck
