Sound Cards

internal pref. PCI

Hey Audiofags,

Im looking to replace my XFI soundcard to something better, faster and all that.

I need Midi in/out, 1/4 inch in outs perhaps RCA in/out and if possible digital in/out. pretty much a zero latency Asio soundcard for production, like the pci cards that m-audio make.

thanks!

PS
Stu im looking in your direction

I've been told m-audio's cards are ass. That's entirely second-hand, but I trust these sources when it comes to sound.

Ha! I'm going the way of firewire soon. maudio delta series is probly the way to go if your going to do pci, but at the cost of those you could get a used MOTU interface and a pci firewire card leading to better A/D conversions.. oooowwww.

they are just cheap feeling.

ad/da converters and mic pre's are definatly workable but i always tend to put better pres infront of the my m-audio box and my digi002 box.

basically they are detla cards in a box.

i think for what phrenetic wants to do, dj,produce with loops, a maudio box is more then adequate.

my m-audio firewire audiophile started acting up within a year or so - I've heard similar complaints from other owners...

latency???....are you syncing up da-88s,dats and adats or something?

latency concerns shouldnt really be a issue like they were back in 99-01

stu is right then,

mark of the unicorn pci system.

im finding the m-audiophile 192 to be working wonderfully for me. It uses the same core converters as the esi julia, I used to have a 1010 and sold it, but i liked it as well. these 2 cards are definately not crap cant speak for the rest of the m-audio line havent used m.

for firewire... i'm about to purchase the MOTU Ultralite. 0 latency, midi in/out, 8x 1/4 inch ins & outs. Also functions as a stand-alone line mixer & has a ton of on-board processing that can be controlled through software. runs about $600. I was also considering the Alesis IO|26, also 8 1/4 inch in/outs & midi interface plus it has a 'phono' input so you can plug a turntable straight in for sampling. runs around $450.

Psykadelik is an unknown quantity at this point
A MOTU Ultralite would be good. Look out for the MK3 version as that supports 192KHz and has some fx as well. Presonus Firebox, is a good choice as well. I have an Echo Audiofire8 card which works really well with Vista. THE best card from what I hear to get for a Windows computer is an RME Fireface, which is about 1200-1700 bucks.
