Good Needes/Stylus/Cartridges??

I need to get a new pair. The ones I got are old and pretty much done (1 more so than the other). Now my knowledge is pretty bad for this shit, my tables came with them already when I got them a few years ago off my friend.

Money isn't a huge object, but I don't feel like shelling out a ton of cake for some if I don't have to. All I really do is mix and maybe some scratching here and there. Durability, life length, and sound is what is most important to me though as I don't scratch like crazy or all that much. If anyone can recommend some products I would really appreciate it!

Ben

I'm using Ortofon Concordes (Scratch) and I love them!

Psykadelik is an unknown quantity at this point
I am using the Qbert Concordes. I find that they more or less track like the M44-7s and they sound better... AND LOUDER! It takes a while though to break them in though.

Shure M44-7's ... Stable, sound great and last forever.

^^ this is definitely the best overall performance needle. they don't skip, they are durable and inexpensive, and they sound decent. There are better needles for certain properties but they will either sacrifice one quality for another, or they will be $$$$$

Not too much difference between the M44-G's and 7's but if you're not doing a lot of scratching, the G's are considered the better sounding of the two while the 7's are a turntablist cart.

Depending on what you're looking for (sound / tracking) you can't really go wrong with either for the price.

Thanks a lot for all the info guys! I will look into those. I really want something that sounds really good and will last a decent while. I guess durability isnt that big of an issue, cuz I'm not savage with them or anything lol.

G's don't track as nice as the 7's. Different shaped needle I think? not sure, someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

and even if you are the most careful person in the world with your cartridges, it doesn't matter - they still get bent, broken damaged and wear out. The more durable the better!

The difference in tracking between G's and 7's is negligible if you don't scratch. In which case you might as well go for the better sounding of the two. They're both scratch carts, and G's perform well when setup correctly. Either way, the carts are around $55 and a replacement stylus is < $25. Could buy both and try them out for less than a set of ortofon's.
