ok so I guess I'm going to have to try it out with a mixer, as soon as I get one happening I'll let you guys know how it works.

sorry soo, I don't understand your question:

What are you hooking your table to on the receiver? Is it labelled Aux or CD? If so that's your problem, as turntables have no preamp. You need to plug it into a jack labelled "phono" on the receiver. If your receiver doesn't have a phono input then you need either a mixing board or a new receiver.

So plug turntable to mixer phono input, hook up mixer output to aux or cd in on receiver.

The problem is you have no amplification on the input on your receiver. A mixer provides the amplification on the phono line.

turntables need to be amplified by a phono pre-amp in order to actually play at the desired volume. If your receiver doesn't have a "phono" option then you need to run it through your dj mixer.

If you don't have a dj mixer, you can also get standalone phono pre-amps are various hi-fi stores or even at the source.
