listen to lotsa of variety of music, Find something you have a passion for, buy those records, study the music, be prepared to spend alot of money and alot of time so you have to be pasionate about it...good luck

www.djforums.com could help you with questions you have about the basics... once you find the style of music you like, checking up on discussion forums/online record stores of that music can be helpful for discovering track names

Play the music you love... and tell anyone who wants you to change your style to fuck off.

Don't play to become famous or to get gigs... play because you enjoy it and it's something you are willing to invest lots of time and money in to, even though it's not confirmed it'll give anything back.

Practice Practice Practice... it's not something that you'll perfect over one night, or one week, or one month... it's something that takes lots of time.

And be very careful with credit cards and your budgeting. As said... it's a damn expensive hobby... and I've filled my CC's with DJ stuff... hell, my CC is currently holding the purchase of my new replacememt cartridge and mixer.

When I asked that question "how do you start dj'ing etc"
The only advice I was told was to go out and buy my own equipment...

hmm yeah =/

Well 6 months later I was baned from the school napal trip and spent that money back on my gear and records :D

Spin what you like to listen to, dont spin something people tell you to spin.
Dont spend all your money.
Dont get fusterated when you find out you suck for the first few months, keep going.
If you hate your turntables after a few months, dont smash them, sell them to me.
