my recommendation is to find something cheap and used to decide if you really wanna get into it or not. there's plenty of fly-by-night djs that pick up two techs and a pioneer djm-600 or something and then decide six months later that they're bored of them and never touch them again.

keep your budget below $500. if you decide like a year or so down the road that you're really gonna keep going with it, invest in something a bit more substantial.

and apologies, but i have none of those to offer you... good luck!

Hiya

I found mine on craigslist.org. I bought mine off the seattle site though because they're ususally under $500USD there. I ended up paying $300 for mine! Hope that helps you out.

I'd seriously consider starting out with CDJ's. Vinyl is expensive and it's a lot easier to get the music you want off the internet versus trying to find the vinyl.

it aint hard to find awsome records, it is expensive but thats part of djing, if it was cheap then everyone would be doin it but if u want to be a serious dj then u have to learn to use turntables over cdj's. also u wont find alot of new tracks on mp3 were as new records come out daily. the selection just aint there if u use cd's

dooode are u serious?
i've been on vinyl the whole time, but seriously starting to switch over. there's soooooooooo many tracks out there.. and its as easy as one two click. no driving to the store, waiting for the new release date once a week, no waiting weeks for your records to come in from the UK, save so much time, and money.. and the selection is so much better.
I dunno.. i used to be anti cd's.. but in all honesty.. its the new way.

if you want to be a serious dj then you have to learn to use turntables over cdj's????? WTF...... The only thing that makes the 2 different is pure preference..... A 4/4 beat is a 4/4 beat regardless as to what media it is... and that go's along with proper bar counts before bringing in tracks and what not. The digital age is here and it is changing the ways of dj'ing only for the better. Infact cdj's have given some dj's alot of respect because some may decide they want to produce a track... mix it in with the rest of there mix and see how the crowd reacts. If the crowd enjoys it and someone is looking for artists for a label hears it it can mean alot from changing a hobby into a career. Lots of promo potential

Myself I am doing producing..... what am I using.... midi controllers and software.... why???? a few simple reasons.... Why the hell would I want purchase an akai mpc-1000 or a virus c which both go's for 1500.00 each when it can only do one thing? With my midi controllers and the software I can assign any sample... any soft synth to any length and degree that I want to and I doing have to dish out crazy amounts of money. Its all how you use your gear and understanding beat structures and timing and having a good ear, nothing more....

cd's are the new way to go because its just so much more convenient, but in all honestly, record shopping and waiting for your records to come in the mail is so much fun.

I haven't done show's in over two years but even then every major DJ we brought in would usually requested a CDJ or 2. The reason being as mentioned is that they could rinse out a track that they made that day.

Isn't everyone doing it anyway? I kind of always thought that was the beauty of DJ'ing is that it's so much more accessible than trying to start a band. As far as selection you can buy most any track for $1-$2 online that you can on vinyl, if you wanted to pay for it.

yeah but when your headliner doing shows constantly and being on the road as much as they are, cd's are the way to go.

you can have a huge playlist and dont have to lug around all those records and watch they get damaged night after night.

I used to think the same thing until I did just that- purchased an MPC1000 and a Virus C Redback....don't turn your back on hardware. As to price, mint MPC with 128 RAM installed= $800, Virus C Redback= $1500, but you could pick up a tabletop Virus C for $1100-$1200.

only does one thing??? if you mean the MPC only does beats, sure...but really well. I use it solo, or with a Motif ES for a pad trigger controller, load 40gb of samples in there and take it where ever you go.

I'm a fan of everything, and I have a blast making stuff with programs like Reason, Reaktor and Kontact, but crank that Virus up and you gotta say DAMN!

Keep your mind and options open
