Birth Control
what does it do exactly? i've heard some things about it such as:
regulates a girls period you can gain weight from it clears up acne what else is there to birth control? are there any side effects? whats the pros and cons of taking this little pill?

There is a HUGE list of side-effects from taking birth control pills, some definitely bad, others harder to say if they are damaging to your body or not. Birth Control pills chemically alter processes in your body, just like drugs! (Because they contain drugs and hormones)
This messsage board is not the best place for info, You should definitely get the full picture from a Doctor about this one... you have to anyways to get a prescription! Have fun boinking...  Glow

Actually, you don't need a prescription.
Most doctors will just give it to you. Some youth clinics do it (not all do it) and doctors will give it too. They get samples and give them out. But you can't just buy it. There's lots of side effects though. Some are more serious then others (but there more rare and have certain conditions) and some are just stupid things. it all depends on the pill (not all are guaranteed to clear your skin) but if you are going to get it, your doctor will tell y ou everything before hand. they make sure you know it before they give it to you (or, they *should* anyways)

birth control pills prevent your ovaries from releasing eggs as well as changing the mucus production in the cervic. because of this, it makes it very hard for the implantation of a zygote and also slows down the movement of sperm when it's travelling through the uterus.
the side effects that people say exist completely depend on the pill and your hormones. no, most people don't experience a *lot* of side effects as some people have said. if you decide to start the pill, the doctor will start you on a 2-month package so that your body can adjust to the pill. if you don't like it, just keep coming up until you find one that works best for you. from what I see, it seems to be really hard to predict what kind of negative side effects you might experience because again, it all depends on the person. it can range from sporadic bleeding , some weight gain due to water retention and in some cases, worse acne or depression. again, it all depends on the person, but if anything's really bugging you, it just means that specific pill is not for you and you should switch to a different one. as for the pros, other than the obvious, I've heard it may help prevent ovarian or cervical cancer. and for some girls, it does help clear up acne. and for those who have major cramps and stuff during their period, the pill is supposed to help with that a lot. the cons? hmm.. I haven't experienced any cons since I've started taking it. thanks guys.....i just wanted to know the general info about the pill from people who are or have taken it. of course i'll go to a doctor for ALL of the information.
so it is good and also not good to take it? its just pretty much your own decision to or not. jon: don't worry about it, i'm fine and if ne thing comes up you'll know about it.....=P

cheryl..agree! =) boys dont understand how brutal it is to have a monthly annoyance!
from wut ive been hearing is that weight gain is all a "mental" factor.. u really just need water in ure system because u get dehydrated really easily. ppl use it as a food excuse and just eat more. i know a group of friends who are on bc's rite now.. and i noticed 2 of them got a lil chubbed than 2 months before. neone know the truth to this one?

i've asked a few doctors about the weight gain thing. this is pretty much what i got. the bcp can make you gain some weight (and by some i mean l ike 3lbs maybe?? nothing at all). and all it usually is, is just water weight. (water retention, to help reduce this, avoid salty foods and salt makes you retain more water!) anything more, is usually just due to the girls eating and exercise habbits. if you eat healthily and exercise, you should be fine. this means cutting out on unhealthy snacks (choose fruits and stuff over cookies or ice cream) i've gotten this from a few doctors i've talked to about it. also many websites and pamphlets have all said the same thing. and it seems pretty reasonable to me. as for me, i think i've gained a few pound.. maybe 4lbs or something?? barely anything, but i notice it myself (why not huh? i see my body every single day i notice things like that) but i've been lazy lately and haven't been eating great so who knows.

one more thing ~ i think it also has to do with the girls genetics. y'know how some girls will gain weight so much easier than others?? well those who do gain weight easier will probably gain more on bcp than others. but it has to do also with their eating and exercise.

sounds all positive so far! goin on the bcp means.. must excercise, cutting down in junk, losing the monthly annoyance, clear skin, possible bigger boobies and being safe at the same time!

birth control pills side effects have significantly lessened over the years, however, they can cause blood clots and shit sp if u have heart problems, etc u wont be allowed to tkae them... umm differnt pills give differnt things. generally the weight is water weight which will subside in two or three months,.... some make your boobs bigger (significantly), some clear up skin, some cure cramps and bloating, but all of them generally regualte your period and lesson your chance of getting pregnant without other forms of contraception to something like 1-5%...

well not totally. if you take the pills just as is (say with a 28 pack) you'd get your period after 21 days (the extra 7 pills contain no hormones so you start your period then.. but you don't necessairly bleed for the whole 7 days) and it's lighter and not as bad. but not gone! (damnit!) but what you can do (but always ask your doctor first!!) is instead of taking those extra 7 nothing pills you just start the new pack (or get a 21 pack and start another one once that's done) and you won't get your period. it's safe, but they say to let yourself have your period everything 3 or 4 skipped ones. So you do still get it, but hey, every 4 months! i don't mind!! :P i'd have to say for me the most annoying side effects ~ having to take it everyday at the same time! It's hard at first, but it does kind of become a habit and it's not so bad. i set the alarm on my cell for the same time everyday and that helps remind me! also, i started it taking them on the first day of my period (as directed) and instead of lasting 5 days, it went on 4 10. ahhhh (not harsh bleeding, just slight spotting, but still there!) and i also got a bit nauseas for the first month of so but nothing too bad. but the pros outweigh the cons here! =)

I've been on BCP for over a year and I haven't had any negative side effects, really.
I was on Tricyclen for 5 months, and then I went on Cyclen for 4 months, and now I'm back on Tricyclen. Each person will experience different effects of each different pill, however, breast size increases and clearer skin are very common when taking Tricyclen and Diane35. Talk to your doc, and make sure you read the pamphlet thing enclosed in each pill pack.

i havent really gone to the doctors yet to get all the info because i'm still a little iffy about taking the pill or not.
why do YOU guys take it? what s the reason behind you girls wanting this pill? because for my info that i know, there are lots of ups and downs. its almost a risk and like bebu said, it is an annoyance....?

and also, for my period. mine was always weird and i never quite knew when it was gonna come, and when it did it was bad. i had the worst backaches, i was so tired, and it was just very uncomfortable. this helps it alot (makes it lighter, less cramping and what not) so even if it's not for sex, it's for my period (and yes, i'm sure youa ll wanted to know that much about my period! :P)

well i was actually thinking of taking it for my period only right now glenda......and yes i'll wait a month, probably more than that.
i'm sort of like you cheryl, my time of the month isnt every month around the same date. its not really regular. and jut like yours, when mine comes, its very bad. it is true, better to be safe than sorry....i guess to have as much protection as you can right?
