I consider a slut to be someone who basically doesn't know what the fuck they're doing. One second they'll think "oh my god, I love this person so much! I'm gonna have good emotional meaningful sex with them and be happy forever and ever!"... then whenever their attention span expires, or the person playing them loses interest, they fall for someone else.
If you just like to have sex with lots of people, then I don't consider that being a slut. I guess 'slut' is also just one of those insults you yell at someone when your blinded by rage and trying to hurt them by whatever means possible :)
