My store gets quite a few deaf people in, and I would like to be able to do some basic communication with them. As of right now, I can fingerspell and sign "thank you" and that's about it.

I'm willing to cook for you (I'm a good cook, I swear! There's people who can vouch for me!) if you are willing to teach me some signs.

you know those deaf people that give out those cards and then ask for a donation.. well when i turned them down they did the sign for "thank you"
at first, i honestly thought they was telling me to fuck off wise guy stylee. because some people extend their hand from their chin rather then their mouth.

but now i know what it means.

Im learning amerian sign language.
It helps alot for working with special needs patrons at my pool.
Black Bond and Chapters had amazing books for under 10 bucks.
I know basics presently, but Im gonna go to continuing education classes for the nitty gritty stuff.

I was surprised my first day working with special needs in the schools and so many kids are using it! I was lucky and had the seaseme street abc sign book which also includes some other basics :P After practiceing them with my student I learned alot!
I want to get my level one now, but probly have to wait till next term...
Till then im gonna check out the book stores for some hady basic sign books :D

I find www.handspeak.com super helpful also. It has video clips of different words in american and international sign langauge plus baby sign.
