Favorite French Fries

I was having this conversation with someone last night.

Where are your favorite french fies?

Fast Food - McDonalds

Casual Dining - White Spot

With Poutine - New York Fries

Fast food - KFC (for some reason and I can't pinpoint it).

Casual Dining - any crispy shoestring skinny fries

Poutine - Grungy little places in Quebec City.

Casual Dining - White Spot

With Poutine - New York Fries

A&W got some good fries, also Red Robins but they are like thick peices. Any fries that are crunchy are my fave.

I think they might soak them in water or do something like that, before frying them, makes them a bit crispier on the outside. Also the fries are thicker than the competition. The Tuesday deal at the Chevron Whitespots is good (burger + fries $3.33) and they play not-bad music.

fritz on davie between granville & howe st are my faves for casual dining / poutine.

can't remember the name of the pub we went to in yaletown (browns? dunno) but they had awesome yam fries.

Yam fries are on the rise for some of my faves. But most places haven't perfected them yet, as they always seem to go soggy after a while.

They have them now in the grocery store, pre-made.

I haven't tried Fritz...but I hear good things.

that fry house on commercial around ... 5th? is pretty good too.

but fritz is the winner, hands down.

Fritz is good. Almost too good. i stay away from there.

Ferris' Oyster Bar in Victoria rates, assuming it's still the same as it was several years ago when i last ate there. The yam & potato fries combo w/ garlic mayo was my favorite for a long time.

everytime i came to grab records i went & grabbed either a medium fries & dip or a medium poutine.

It sounds gross, but Burger King Poutine is the best by far, (for fake poutine)so good yet so bad for you!

it's disturbing to me how many people prefer heavily processed, completely artifically flavored foods over the real thing. ie, mcdonalds fries. the flavor of mcdonalds fries has been entirely synthesised with chemicals since the early 90s when they stppped cooking them in beef tallow.
