Anyone here familiar with metaphysics?

I've been binging on this book I picked up at the library.. I'm planning on reading a few more but I'm curious to know if anyone else has read much on the subject?

I'm amazed to see many of my half-baked theories elaborated on, such as the Universe being created, sustained, and eventually destroyed by vibration (ie. the "Word of God", the "Big Bang", or my personal thought of celestial harmonics being the foundation of all that is, was, and shall be created).

I'm doing my best to read with as much skepticism as possible, questioning everything so I can find my own answers... but so much of it makes sense with what I already believed going into the book. I'm starting to think metaphysics may be a large part of my path.

Yes i enjoy metaphysics as well but there is only so much philosophical theory i can take. You may also be interested in Epistemology (sources of knowledge) and Ontology (sources of existance).

David Hume,
Hegel
Immanuel Kant
Descartes, the "brain in the vat" thought experiment. How do we know all that we perceive is nothing but stimulus applied to our nerves through an external source?

or the more classic Aristotle (considered the father of metaphysics), Plato etc. You might wanna start with the classics.

Ya.... you might be surprised to find many of the theories presented you more or less knew already. Its actually kind of thrilling to read someone elaborate of beliefs that you had without any provocation.

It basically comes down to the fact that all matter can be broken down into energy.

Einstien postulated that the energy in any matter is equal to its mass multiplied by the square of the velocity of light. Atomic energy can therefore be released through atomic decomposition (theory used in the atomic bomb). By assuming the velocity of light is the only constant in the universe on come to the conclusion that all matter of the universe is energy. This changes one's perspective of birth and death, implying there is a before and after whose existence is proven by the existence of a transfer of energy.

On another note, my experience with metaphysics is marked by the broad use of the term. Any axiomatic system can have its own metaphysical laws depending one how you construct the basic laws of the universe you are working in. Many conclusions can be drawn by making assumptions about truth and falsity. Where is becomes tricky is working in the universe we live in, not one created to be valid and sound (disredard this if you don't know the logical implications of soundness and validity) under the assumptions made.

Yogi's would call this the word "Aum". It is the vibrational cosmic energy that flows into the medulla oblongata. It is said to be the vibrational of the omnipresent soul. they would say "the word of God" is the source of creation and the sound heard when in communiun with super-conciousness.

See, like i said. Metaphysics is a broad term that has implications in science and religion. However, science and religion are not as far apart as most people think.

yes, the om is the vibration. vibration is the key. that was the OVERWHELMING lesson i have learn these past two years drinking ayahuasca in the peruvian amazon.

basically, its just one vast multidimensional complex of vibrational information. akin to the 'superstring' theroy wich is pretty fascinating as well......

pehaps why so many become consumed with a phenominal 'buzz' or vibration right after a hit of DMT. i know after i took my dose for the first 5 seconds thats all i could feel is this overwhelming 'buzz' like i was harmonically 'locking' into the frequncey of creation. Once that happend, and it did, there was no room at all for simple vibrations like 'words' or 'feelings' or 'awe'or the concept of a 'ego' or 'self'. It was just.....well, one mass multicolored vibrating complex of energy. some call it a direct interface with god. I call it the absolute farthest you can go and safely comeback with out going completely insane.

infact i remeber when i came 'back into' myself i had the feeling of 'now youve done it john, you went a little to far this time, theres no way your going to come out of this normal. youve finally fried your wires' lols...turns out that was just the shock of realizing i cam back into my body.

so yes, after those experinces, id be a bloody fool not to be familiar with metaphysics.

its all a matter of energy.

LOL

Not a bad idea, by then I'll be done my phil final, will never take another phil class again, and can digress into not caring about ethical boundaries.....in the idea that I should care about them from an educational standpoint.

Aristotle sounds like a good place to start. As for Descartes, I've read Discourse on Method and Meditation before.. but I was 15 and didn't get much out of it. I'll probably pick it up again. I'll be heading to the library tomorrow.

djmarkpaul will become famous soon enough
Since the basics have been covered, if you're looking for something more modern, I suggest The Occult by Colin Wilson. That book will change your life. He really sympathizes with the skeptic but isn't afraid to say what's on his mind. I find him fairly accurate for an author not really willing to dabble into revising history. Archaeo-astronomy has changed that for me, but this book was still ahead of it's time.

I think you'd also enjoy some of these must haves:

Zig Zag Zen

The Cosmic Serpent

Sacred Mushroom and the Cross

Maybe watch this.

Just be sure to blow your mind before you put it back together, there's so many forgotten mysteries on this planet that are waiting to be rediscovered.
