external hard drive needed for mac powerbook

My powerbook is on the verge of some first aid (Im thinking somthing is up with the quality or nature of how my ram is installed, or the wireless mouse I am using) and so I want to back up all my files. Im thinking the easiest way to do this is grabbing an external hardrive rather than using multiple cdr's which would be far too time consuming. I need an external drive that mac orientated, 40-80 GB and reletively affordable, and I need it soon!

any help?

thanks_

you can pretty much use any drive for mac - it's all in the formatting.

I'd go firewire though as it seems a little faster than usb 2.0

i use a lacie 250gb ext drive for audio/photo and video backups.

it has a tripple interface, usb2.0 and fw 400/800.

run about 300 or so.....a little up there in the price range but its top notch.

lacie have always been known for quality, perhaps if you can squeeze your budget abit they might be a good option for you.

....oh and support our troops in afganistan too!.....lols.

Thanks guys, the other question I got is :

What is the process for backing up files? Is it a matter of systematically dropping files into a burn folder, or is there an option in the OS to back-up everything. I vaguely remember there being a fairly simple process/function on my PC?
