crime - fantastic commute time - as fast as a speeding bullet vinyl shop - I think the PVC clothing store is there, close enough? rental costs - cheap! |

^^ yeah craigslist is best bet...
you can search by your budget, and most of time they have pics of the places for rent.. good luck... (if u're willing to spend up to 1k / month, then you best of to find a place downtown, u can find one for approx starting at $600, close to everything and good way to explore vancouver, easily accessible, tons of stores, and record shops, by skytrain and the beach) |

Downtown or just in the outskirts is affordable for your price range. Surrey is the worst for crime, and the rest of vancouver is some what about the same.
I live in North Van, and it's nice here, only downside is trying to get home from downtown after 12:30... the sea bus ends and there is one bus that comes over the bridge three different times, 12, 2, 3 |

The worst thing about Surrey, even more than the crime and stupidity, is it's so far away from everything. If you're into music, restaurants, galleries, that kind of thing, don't consider Surrey. (plus people who suggested Whalley were fucking with you, it's a notoriously gross area of Surrey)
Downtown is the place to be for you (you mentioned records and you're posting on this board, so I'm making some assumptions here)...or maybe Kits if you can handle a lot of yippies, or Commercial Drive if you can handle a lot of hippies, Italians and lesbians (it definitely has character, though) |

There are a lot of nice affordable places to live in Surrey it has just got a bad rep. You might say Surrey and people from Surrey are stereotyped by by shallow people who don't have a clue. I live in Newton which is in Surrey and i like it hear alot. |
