When did peanuts become so evil?

It seems like over the last few years, peanuts have been built up to be the most evil thing in the world. More potent than Lucifer even!

one thing I've heard that is so rediculious is that you shouldn't send your child to school with things that have peanuts in it, (ie chocolate bar, peanut butter sandwich) because other children might have allergies?

like wtf? if your kid had allergies then you should watch what they eat, but you can't make everyone in the school not bring peanuts to the school.

Actually they can, and they do. A kid in my elementary school had one.. if someone ate a peanut butter sandwhich and used the water fountain before he washed his hands, any peanut oil that was on his their would severely harm the kid if said kid happened to use the fountain before the janitors got to it.

There was another kid in my highschool that had an allergy to it.. some kids thought was funny and brought cashews to school and threw them at him. My teacher told me if he had a severe enough reaction, it could be considered attempted manslaughter.

I've heard that health benefits are there such as antioxidants but that the risk of aflatoxin is not worth taking.

banning peanuts, or any foods containing peanut properties, does have its safety concerns. However! If they did peanut alergy screening PRIOR to semester enrollment, then on record, statistics would either allow or disallow the consumption of those foods in the school, subject to food discrimination: uh, right. It would be kind of like saying to a university student (me), don't bring peanut butter sandwhiches to class because your class mates will get sick. That's blasphemy! :( Us students are poor! and we can only afford peanut butter sandwhiches for lunch :( and then after school we have a nicely cooked steak and mashed potatoes :)

id say it's about time they realized just how many people are allergic. take a simple step to make sure there are no nuts in something that was never supposed to have them anyways, and presto! you make more money.

It is actually dangerous to feed children under the age of five peanuts or any peanut by-product. Same with honey.

Even though these are both healthy food to eat at an adult age, the toxins/spores that are found in these two foods floursih in a childs system.

They say it isn't a good idea for women to eat these foods while pregnant as well.

I think for small children, it makes sense to ban peanut products from schools. Nut allergies can be fatal, and you can't watch a 6 year old all the time, so in my mind the risk is great enough for steps to be taken.

However, by highschool, if your child cannot take care to avoid ingesting peanut products, well then natural selection should be allowed to work its majic on them.

Ok that was a bit harsh, but really, beyond primary school peanut-free rules are a bit excessive.

And Dabbler, there are quite a few products marketing themselves as "nut free" now.

who gives a fuck.

I can go without eating a peanut butter sandwhich if it means saving a kid's life or trip to the emergency.

and chocolate bars for lunch? who the hell eats chocolate bars for lunch?
willy wonka's kids?

I'm allergic to penicillin, so does that mean that when someone in my house is sick they should not be prescribed it because I may get into contact with it or I accidentally take it?

my little sister wasn't allowed to bring anything that could have trace amounts of peanuts to school from gr.1 - gr.5 because there was a girl with allergies in her class.
