wow :S

but just a note to those debt free.
u are lucky for now, because you dont have any real expenses or have families that just crap money. But for the most of us, we will never be debt free. think about it, if its not student loans, then its car loans, if its not credit cards that pay for our getaways, shopping sprees and emergency "get out of jail" funds, then its mortgages, and divorce lawyers, and ofcoarse, how can i forget, even after we die, we pass on our funeral debt to our kin, with whatever else crap we managed to charge :)
ahhh the cycle never ceases to amaze me

Older you get, the more financial struggles one faces. It's a given. You pretty much have to start saving at a very young age in order to be debt free nowadays by the looks of how our economy is expanding.

That should be a course on its own in highschool. Screw Physics or Geology.

True dat, i'm not even counting my cars and equipment in there, although both are pretty major ongoing expenses. I've reached an understanding between me and debt: "don't keep me awake at night and I'll keep feeding you"! =)

Ya

Equity's where it's at. I make pretty good money, pay my bills and have RRSP's so why not enjoy the finer things? (Although having 3 cars right now is just plain stupid)

I'm thinking of purchasing a house this year, but the market is crazy expensive, and I'm thinking of postponing it another year.

I know. There's a plus and minus in the market right now. If you have the funds to flip, it would be the best time. One would make a bloody fortune seeing how this "trend" is now a hot commodity.

I 100% agree with this. Although, if anyone took an economics course, they would know.

I started saving about 4 years ago. I try and save at least $320 a month right now. It is a struggle at times, and everytime a tough month comes, I say I am lowering the amount. Then I wait one more payment, and it is easy. All of my money is wrapped up in investments and I am making a lot considering my savings.

Creditors are willing to extend more credit when you have a nest egg to fall back on. For those of you that don't currently have credit, it is wise to start saving rrsp's as when you finally go for credit, it looks fantastic.

If you are trying to get out of debt, these are two things I live religously by.

Debt Diet
I am trying to get myself out to buy a house.

The Latte Factor
I never ever buy a coffee, I make my lunch, and I give myself an allowance per week. I was spending upwards of $15K on crap per year.

A mortgage isn't bad debt.

Renting in Burnaby is throwing away your money.

Gee golly gosh Avana, is there anything you're not a know-it-all about?
Have you ever maybe thought that I like where I live and my rent is reasonable for all that I see and get?

student loans: 8000
visa/mastercard: 300

savings and rrsps every month: 300

I am trying to get that loan down by as much as I can as soon as i can so I've been making payments on it upwards of 400 a month... I hate debt, but it's a hard fact of life and I am sure as soon as I get out of it, I'll be back whether it be a house or a car or something.
