Who's running Vista?

I snagged a copy off of OiNK but I'm really wary of actually installing this OS mostly because I'm sure that there'll be a shit load of problems with drivers and all that crap.

Is anyone smoothly running Vista (well as smooth as any Windows app ever runs, right?) on their PC?

Recommendations? (Not including the ones that say 'BUY A MAC' hahaha.... I can't buy a new comp!)

Hahaha... I'm kinda chicken shit to actually take the plunge! I don't want to have to go to all the work of re-installing XP if it fucks up!

I ran the final version for a bit, I'd hold out for a while longer still. There's still lots of shit that doesn't work, and the only real anti-virus out there is from Microsoft for like $50/year.

If you have an Nvidia video card, you should definitely wait a few more weeks as well. Also, if you buy music off iTunes, wait a few weeks for compatible shit as well.

I installed the Ulitmate Edition. It ran perfectly smoothly for me but my buddy has hellicious sound card volume problems. Overall I found it way too intrusive and visually stimulating for an OS. So I just reinstalled XP. Maybe I'll go to vista later

it's not worth my time to go through the process of backing up my entire system and reinstalling my programs only to find out that the copy i got off the internet was a bunk copy repackaged by some scriptkiddie riddled with keyloggers, trojans and more insecurities, waiting for you to input your personal information and have that info sent back to him. only to get screwed 1000000x over.

unless you have proper knowledge about blocking ports and internet connections, i wouldn't bother installing an OS downloaded from some torrent site.

^^ has happened many times to people on this board and other torrent boards 3 months after they have downloaded something off the internet

Blecccch.

Personally I try never to touch any Microsoft product until it's been out for 6 months at least, usually a year when it comes to Operating Systems.

So much of the "security" features they put in are just restrictions in the userspace... Which is ridiculous for those of us who actually know how to maintain an operating system and just makes doing things slower and more klunky.

Avoiding it like the plague.

You talking the Windows 2000-style classic view?

If you mean the non-Aero 3D view, for sure you can turn that off. When you do, it's XP-style. When I ran it, I never checked for the 2000-style view, since I prefer the XP-style better.
