Road Trip To California

I wanted to fly because when all is said and done it will pretty much cost the same, but i've decided to suck it up and have an adventure with friends.

What should we see/do on the way down?

I think we'd like to check out San Francisco.

End destination is Indio, California, which is near Palm Springs.

One of my favorite towns is San Luis Obispo, its a tiny little college town. Every Thursday night the whole town has a bbq out in the streets. The hearst castle is also around there. There is another tiny little town that I really liked too called Morro Bay, it's kind of like Steveston, there isn't much to do there but there is some really nice scenery. Farther North, if your planning on going inland past Sacramento, there is always Yosemite. If your into wine, don't forget about about Napa either, its a great place.

I'll see if I can think of some more when I get a chance. I'll be down in Long Beach May 4th - 18th for a conference.

When in San Fran check out Mezzanine. It's a great "hidden gem" bar that basically no one we asked about it knew of it, with a fab scene (think our limerick junction, but nicer) and great music. Also, roll through Chinatown (we stayed in the Grant Plaza hotel just on the edge of it). DO NOT stay in the Renoir, it is in a seriously shady part of town. If you wanna know more bout Cali, Esi, just grab me on msn. Chris and I had so much fun =)

I just did a quick google of a few of the places you mentioned. The first two places sound like they'd be neat to drive through. I'd really like to check out hearst castle!

Yosemite would be neat if we were planning a different kind of trip, but it's too far inland.

It looks like we could drive through Napa to get to Indio, which would be really beautiful. I wouldn't mind checking out some of the vineyards.

I'm getting really excited about this!

MORE SUGGESTIONS, JESS.

We're thinking about leaving Vancouver on Tuesday (maybe Monday), will that be enough time to see a few neat places before getting to our destination for Friday morning?

How long did you guys spend in San Francisco? What did you guys do? Is the weather still nice there? I want to spend an entire day there I think. I'm not sure if we'll be hitting up any clubs/bars because we're going to be at Coachella for three days and that will be plenty of music. I'm meeting up with my fellow road trippers this week to plan things out properly. I'm not sure what kind of experiences they're looking for. I basically just want a calm drive with a few neat (and even calmer) pit stops before the crazy three days we're going to have when we get to our destination.

I'm going to this festival. We're probably going to camp on site for three days, which will be very exhausting, so I want to do chill stuff before and after.

tango is on a distinguished road
hey hey... i'm going to Coachella too with 2 of my freinds. we're driving straight down and heading right to the festival, but on the way back, we've got some crazy things planned. we're going to go to 6 flags and ride montezuma's revenge; camp overnite in the redwood forest on the beach; definatly checking out San Fran; there's so much to see in san fran, we could stay for days. there's a lot of places up the oregon coast that we wanna check out too. and probably seattle. i'm still working on what exactly we're all gonna do.
its gonna be SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!! i cant beleive its still 2 months away!

We were there for two nights, and the weather was mild (light jacket weather in dec/jan).

Rage is playing.
I can't believe I'm not going.
Auuuuuugh Esi I am going to be jealous of you FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES. Seriously. My boyfriend is the luckiest guy EVER that I would pass up Rage just to spend his birthday with him. REALLY.

(ps I may have a scheme that may allow me to do both, it is somewhat doubtful and may include me riding with you and towing a u-haul trailer...:P)
