luckily! my dad stopped this chick from processing it before it all went through - he picked up my file and he's taking it somewhere else!

ya something seriously ain't right at all. Especially if you went on maternity leave and all. And the fact that taxes are lower this year again.... should be breaking even or getting some type of return.... Not having to owe a shit load of money...

that sucks!!! i was short 400$ less than what i thought i was getting back. it sucked ass.

i now take an extra 25$ per check extra off(after the last time i owed cash)

A couple years ago I went to H & R Block and did my taxes and they told me I owed $1800.

Two months later I got a letter from Revenue Canada and a cheque for $1300

So I paid for H&R's mistake..but still got money back in the end..

^^ that's amazing!! Yeah, definetly something is wrong. You must have been one of the lucky few who were audited.

I'm on EI maternity leave, basically getting money from the government while I'm off work - So i'm not understanding why I would owe such a huge amount. It's basically like I'm paying back over 4 months of mat leave. Makes zero sense!

How do you pay back 3 grand with a baby??

All EI payments are sent to you without any income taxes taken off however wage-loss replacement income like Disability Benefits, Canada Pension Plan payments, and all EI payments are considered 'taxable income.' There is a good chance that you will owe the Gov money but 3 grand is not right unless that is considering both you & your man's returns.

If you and your guy are considered as a common law couple, then you would apply for the gst rebate since it is likely that your income is less than your guy's. That might help with the end result a little. There are others things that can be taken into consideration when filing a beneficial tax return and since H&R Block is pretty basic, it's best to take your info to someone with a bit more experience filing returns.

3 grand is a bit high for a person who worked a chunk of 2005 and received about 30-something weeks of EI mat. Something is a wee bit off.

I took my tax return to money mart and they said I owed money, so I took it back. I am pissed because I get extra money off my cheques everytime I get paid. My ex work screwed me. I still haven't filed.

i'm in the same boat...i was expecting to get around $500...now i owe almost $850...

woohoo to have 4 t4's this year...and to 2 of them not taking off ANY income taxes....damn bars *insert angry face here*
