Assuming that there is advanced civilizations regularly visiting Earth, I would think of it to be more of a tour, like a petting zoo or looking at an ant colony in our terms rather than a colonialist move. If you look at where we are located in space, there is indeed much more condenced star systems about, that could likely support a wealth of more minerals than our small planet could offer.

To see the state of affairs in an exopolitical light, a less technologically and spiritually developed society would be more of a case study on psychology, and perhaps to sample from the wide array of biological life here...other than that...I couldn't really see a reason to be here from their perspective (assuming I can even do that).

The way you speak of these visitors, its as though you seem to personify them in the most human of ways.
