What would you do if you had a snitch at your job?

What would you do if you had a snitch at your job?

Remind you, I work in a corporate environment....

This one chick is always snitching on people for no damn reason. I work with her 1(Friday night) of my 4days(4-10hr shifts).

This chick was fired from her last gig and got this other dude fired last year when we worked in another dept. I'm praying she doesn't try to get me in some mess, cause I'll make that fool commit suicide. Through an informant, she was going to tell the team lead that she sees me on the net some nights. I'm like, "WTF does that have to do with her?"

What would yall do? I don't feel all that comfortable going to the manager.

"cause I'll make that fool commit suicide."

hahaha okay...

Anyways, you should use an application ghoster so she cant see your browser windows. How close do you sit to her? Is she older than you? A lot of times older employees who are on the same level as you try to establish some sort of dominance in the workplace to feel better about the fact that they are doing the same job as a younger person.

If you can, just hide any activities that you are doing that may get you in trouble (like wasting your life on FNK). If you can prevent your supers from knowing what you are doing then you should be able to do the same with a fellow employee. Its not a good idea to confront them unless you have to. If they are a little unstable they may take this confrontation as a "threat" and inform a manager that you are making them uncomfortable by telling them not to report any of your mis-behavior = blows up in your face.

If the situation is bad then you can go to a manager and tell them that you feel like employee "x" is trying to get you in trouble and its making you feel uneasy. You might state that you feel that you are being watched like a hawk and that you dont think that the employee is really in their place trying to play manager. By being proactive you look like you are in the right. however I wouldent recommend talking to a super about it unless you can avoid it because it brings about the obvious question "well what do you have to hide?" but of course you can always spin this off in various ways if you are prepared for such questions.

Of course some one on here is going to tell you that you should be doing your job and not slacking... but thats all togeather a different issue.

Befriend her or realize that the work environment is filled with these types and that watching what you say about your personal habits and routines is a virtue to be remembered.

Unfortunately it's not always that easy. Sometime people WANT to have a problem with you. Reasons are many and can be stupid. Just because I might drop by on FnK during work does not mean I'm not doing my job - my pace and my style are mine to decide upon and as long as I'm not fucking up what I am doing in terms of deliverables, that I shouldn't need to explain squat to anybody.

uh - most company policies state not to use their internet resources for personal use. so shove your productivity arguement. if you are using the internet, it is fucking around, doesn't matter what way you try and justify it.

I've busted someone for going out and partying when she called in sick.

It wasn't really because I wanted to be a dick, but she's a total slacker that never really did her job properly. Union job so the supervisors were just looking for an excuse to fire her.

Moral of the story: If you want to keep your job, don't go out partying on a sick day when you're on your final warning.

I have no problems being a vassal of karma. It'll bite me back in the end anyways.

Yes, most companies do have policies regarding the use of their Internet resources for personal reasons. The idea is that unless you are completely slacking off from work, visiting a website in your lunch break or whenever you take a breather will not be such a big deal for your manager [sure, don't go watch porn at work or engage in anything illegal]

Even if it weren't for this, some people will find something on you. Going for a cigarette. Leaving 10 minutes early. With a flexible schedule, I might decide to bounce a bit earlier today and stay a bit longer tomorrow. One shouldn't be expected to explain every single step of their workday to anyone, every time.

I know how things are "supposed" to be and realize there is little in the way of argument vis-a-vis what you have mentioned - you are to not use the workplace computer for personal business. I do know and, luckily, always came across managers that understand Section 2 of The Hacker FAQ. Being that I work in Tech, it fits me [and I know it wouldn't be the same everywhere.] Even in larger corporations I had no problems. I know I would be much less pleased if I had a draconian manager that wouldn't get it - and much less productive, even after staring 8 hours in the monitor and not doing anything else.

Work shouldn't be a dreadful place.

I don't really think it's part of anybody's social responsibility to ensure slackers and sloths get equal treatment as the rest of us. It's one thing to snitch at every occasion you get and another to do so after repeat offenses, after you've spoken to the person about it etc.

Some people need a push, some need a wake-up call. Delivery varies by product.

Go to your boss, tell him/her that this person who is constantly snitching on you and other people is creating an unsettling work environment for you and other people in the building. Tell them that because of their approach to always knowing things, you are uncomfortable and feel as though your private space and personal life are being intruded upon. And that you feel as though her constant watch over everyone is making you feel abused at work. (Yes, say abused!) Tell them you feel un-nerving about the fact that this snitch/person is not in a position where they need to be watching everyone at such a close setting. Mention to them that the only people that you know who watch people like that who are not managers or in a position of authority at work, disturb you. Remember to keep mentioning that its not only you, but other people within your work environment as well.
Tell your boss that with this person's constant watch over everyone in the manner as to which they are going about it, it is creating a work enviornment in which you cannot do your job to the best of your ability and that it is creating a disruptive force between the people in your work area and the work that needs to be done.
If they ask if you are making a formal complaint, say yes. (If you really want this to stop)

Things will go from there and you should be able to complete the rest. Make sure that you have at least 3 other people who you know feel the same way about the snitch, and are willing to say so if a manager/boss or whoever were to ask them about it in private.

Stop talking.. your so black and white. Even when you have your breaks... im sure you occasionally take a quick break that your not actually alocated to have.. pause.. talk to someone.. stop working and just relax for a minute.. have a snack while your supposed to be working... and wjhen you go back to work you feel better and work mroe efficiently because of it.

Doing something on the internet is the exact same thing, so long it doesnt happen so often as to become counter productive their is nothing fundamentally wrong with it. France has proved that people who enjoy working, work faster. And america has proved that strict regulation ect and long working hours reduces productivity to make an american 40 hour working week less productive then a french 30 hour week.

So please. Be quiet and come up with some valid points to as why its so bad. At least he is coming up with very good points to defend the concept of internet breaks. Your just acting like a nazi and not allowing any room for negotiation on the subject, and sound like you are in fact in need of a break.
