Ipod dilemma

Alright, so I have this friend who i'm not super close with but we've been hanging out with (on and off) for a few years.
Last year I lent him a library book and he never returned it so I ended up calling the library and reporting it as stolen and I had to pay a forty dollar fine.
He apologized and I got over it so last night he shows up at my work and he's coked out of his skull (he has a coke problem) and he's hanging out at my bar.
He asks me what music i've been listening too and I go get my ipod and let him listen to it figuring he was in full view the whole time and I wouldn't have a problem.

Last call comes around and me and a bunch of coworkers were heading over to a lounge down the street for a drink and I invited him to come.
He agreed and said he'd meet me at the 24 hour coffee shop two stores down after I cashed out. He asked if he could hold onto my Ipod and listen to it until we met up and I agreed because I thought it would be fine.
I cash out, head over to the Blenz and he's not there - I called his cell phone and he's not answering.
I even left a few angry messages on facebook but nothing. Now, the thing is I know where he lives so I'm wondering whether I should show up there or whether I should get the police involved.

I know it was super stupid on my part but I generally give friends the benefit of the doubt and I never thought he was as shady of a fucker as he turned out to be.

What should I do?

To me it'd be worth an Ipod to never have to see him again.

Then again, I hate Ipods.

I say go over to his home with another male friend, one who is larger and intimidating and ask him for it back. If that doesn't work then get the fuzz involved.

Thanks guys, he called this morning and i'm picking it up in an hour - he apologized and such but I really don't see myself sustaining a friendship with him.

Sunshyne, it's more the principal that has me concerned - and you know whatit is a big loss because I love that thing - I have pictures on it and my entire music collection.
I've gone through 2 mp3 players in the past and my ipod is my best investment yet in terms of portable music devices.
I also had to deal with paying that library fine and really I don't think I should deal with another expense because of him.

Well, thank god you waited at least 24hrs. My money is on him having been up since Friday morning so crashing out meant 12-16hrs of unconsciousness.

I'd straight up tell him you think he has a coke problem and that while you didn't call the cops, the rest of his friends won't be so lenient, nor would you be the next time.

Actually what i said about going to the police was wrong. They don't usually give a shit about stuff like that. I went to the cops when my cell was stolen and quickly found out it's pretty much pointless except for leaving a record in case whatever was stolen is used against you in a larger crime.

But really I think he needs to realize that he has a problem and get help because he can have all the concern in the world but if he doesn't want to sort it out nobody can help him.

Carrie - soon!! Hopefully this time i'll be somewhat coherant and not super wasted. We should really plan a night out though, an upcoming weekend perhaps?

You just earned a lot of respect in my eyes, and i'm sure a few others as well (not that you care cause you've only seen me troll haha)

but it takes a truly genuine person to be able to sit someone down and tell them something like that to their face..

most people would take the easy way out, and just stop talking to that person and carry on with your life.. but to address someones issues like that to their face, takes guys...
