Gamer Kidnapped, Held at Gunpoint for his Password

Four armed guys kidnapped one of the world's top RPG gamers after one criminal's girlfriend lured him into a fake date using Orkut, Google's social network. After sequestering him in Sao Paulo, they held a gun against the victim's head for five hours to get his password, which they wanted to sell for $8,000. And yes, it gets even better.

Surprisingly enough, after the five hours the player wasn't talking. He had a gun against his head and he didn't tell them his password. At that point, the gang gave up and allowed him to leave. The Brazilian police then caught the four suspects, aged 19 to 27.

According to the police, the guy is the world leader in GunBound, a turn-based RPG-style multiplayer online game developed in South Korea. In this artillery-based game you get more experience points, offensive and defensive capabilities and money to buy weapons, armor and all kinds of gear depending on your skills during battle.

maybe he could just tell they wouldn't kill him. because killing for 8,000 is about as ridiculous as risking your life for something you're a world leader in.

I think its awesome. Go RPG'ers. I doubt many computer geeks can say that they are so hard core about their gaming that they would literaly risk their life to keep their account.

Sao Paolo has one of the worst crime rates in the world with 1500 murders last year, compared to New York's 671.

19 mil in new york to canadas 33 million, off by a mere 14 million people. Its fair enough to then calculate roughly from that canadas crime rate is about .50 of the states.

I can see this being sad from a the normal person perspective yes lol. However these people are addicted, and me being addicted to a video game in the past for over 6 years, yes I can relate, it BECOMES your life.

He just created that character and the new reality (like the matrix!). He recreated himself in that reality. I could ration that to give up his account is like giving up your life. Especially in this person's case. He built up such a serene reputation in a false reality that he will probably never achieve in our reality.

It's gunbound. The game of using brightly colored tanks and animals that little children ride and shoot plungers and stars at each other.

If that's his new reality he probably would be better off dead...

However, I want to meet the girlfriend in this story. Just to figure out the logic, "my boyfriend is going to steal videogame passwords, I'm with a winner".

it doesn't matter how many pixels the game consists of, it is still an addicting game/reality.

as for the girl, she obviously on the same boat as the guys with the guns. shes addicted and takes the necessary measures to survive, profit, or get vengeance in her reality.
