Fuck this, I want parking in Vancouver. If we screw ourselves for parking now its going to be harder to implement later. This is necessary. If businesses need their garbage removed they should pay for it.
I for one hate driving all over the place looking for some ware to park. I will be happy if Van stays as far from NY for as long as possible. |

You guys are redic. The dt is not going to get filled with garbage. You are all talking about this like the world is coming to an end. WE NEED PARKING. Its not like all of a sudden there will be no trash pick up and there will be garbage piled 5 ft high along the streets.
As far as Im concerned these are both important areas the city is obligated to do. It shouldn't be like one or the other. politics really piss me off sometimes. They seem to have no concept of how to budget. If there is a lack of garbage services there is always room for waste companies to pick up the slack. Where there is lack of government support there is room for private help. Maybe there will be more privatized trash collection companies that are able to provide a viable solution for Vancouver. |

No YOU WANT parking. You do not NEEED it. You have 5 other possible ways to transport your self around Vancouver; public transit, cab, bike, walk, car pool (less parking needed). There fore parking IS NOT a NEED, but a convenience. Public transit can be used by far more people than parking spaces... so why is parking seen as a essential service instead of public transit? The only people I can see parking being an essential service too would be commercial vehicle's and residents who both have permits to park on the street or designated spots. I live a good 15-20 min drive out of Down Town and much rather take my car than public transit any day. However I would never scream for it being an essential service... especially if I had the option of public transit. I knew people who had to walk 10km's one way to work during the transit strike. Not to mention the majority of the world does not have their own personal car to get from one place to the other. Quite being such a luxury high hat and learn to live and organize your life like the majority of the population. Last edited by R Wellbelove; Jul 24, 07 at 08:09 PM. |

I do take public transit, and have for years. I still think Van needs parking.
Like I said, it should be the cities responsibility to take both issues into account. If they are not capable of handling garbage, a private company can come in and pick up the slack. There are no private companies that have free decision over what happens with road ways regarding parking. |

Not the west end, it's all apartment buildings with private garbage collection. |
