What the hell is going with our medical system?

Alright I am kinda blown away from this. For the 3rd time in a row I have had a friend that had to be sent to seattle to give birth. Wasn't due to the fact that there wasn't anything complicated or anything its just that there were no beds available. This also happened to 2 other friends that I know as well..

Just what in the hell is going on with our medical system now? kinda getting out of hand here.

I feel a huge part of the problem is people abusing it by going to the hospital for everything. Most clinics can take car of minor problems if it's not life threatning. I had stiches done at a clinic.

You have to register with the hospital in order to give birth there. Your not registered and there isnt room you get sent to Seattle or out of province.

I was shocked to learn you had to register until I started my new job and my cooworker is pregnant and trying to get in with a hospital close to her.

But yes, that is why. They dont register, They dont give birth there.

I'll second this, if you have a cold the hospital is not the place for you to be, if you just took a screwdriver in the eye go to the hospital..

My mom had to wait 20 HOURS to be seen at VGH a few weeks ago...as well as the treatment I would say of some of the hospital staff in Vancouver. The system is a tad skitso.

Um, child birth in Canada is way, way, way up. Keep in mind it costs nearly the same amount to tax payers to pay for a hospital to deliver a baby be it in the states or up here.
