Anger management student charged with assaulting bus passengers

A St. Paul man on his way to anger management class demonstrated just how badly he needed to attend the class.

Justin Boudin is charged with fifth degree assault for using his anger management class papers to hit a man.

It was just before rush hour on August 29, that police say the 27-year-old Boudin was at a St. Paul bus stop when he began arguing with waiting passengers.

He was particularly upset with a 59-year-old woman and yelled at her, saying, "Why don't you show me some respect?"

When she took out her cell phone, Boudin hit the woman, causing her to fall and strike her head on a nearby brick building.

A witness tried to help her and Boudin hit that man too, with his anger management folder.

Police say before the bus even arrived, Boudin ran, dropping a folder of paperwork he was supposed to bring to the anger management class, papers police used to help identify him.

"From that perspective, it's pretty unusual," Metro Transit's Bob Gibbons said. "And I think the linkage to an anger management class makes it even more bizarre."

While police used the class paperwork to find Boudin, he denied the events took place. Saying instead he was the one assaulted at the bus stop by another man. He said he'd lost the folder before his class, and that he never used it to hit anyone.

"Our hope is that the court will see fit to allow him to finish his anger management class in jail," Gibbons said.

Boudin was arrested, identified in a photo lineup by witnesses, and charged with felony assault.

This is Boudin's third assault charge in 18 months, and he has been twice convicted of domestic assault.

He makes his next court appearance for the latest assault charge on Friday.

"Clearly he has issues," Gibbons said.

Consider how stressful anger management counsellor is as a job.

I've heard tons of these stories.... Anger management guy tosses laptop out a moving vehicle, anger management guy beats up his wife, etc. etc.

Dealing with that much frustration and anger, sometimes people just snap.
