The US push for passenger info of flights over America

I have just been watching the Global National while trying to prep for my midterm tmrw (Heh I know. No, really), and there's a story about the US (or more specifically, Homeland Security) pursuing a plan to obtain information of passengers flying over the US. Yes, that's right, not landing in the US, but flying OVER the country. Although Cdn domestic flights are already except from this plan - even though many of them do dip into Amn airspace en route - it is causing great commotion with people who are planning trips this winter to sunny destinations (such as Mexico, and Central and South America). The US expresses that their motive for the obtainment of information is to try and "keep on top of an evolving enemy" (paraphrased).

What do you guys think about this proposed plan? Do you think the US should be entitled to this information or do you think it's an invasion of privacy? Or is it more grey than that..?

I think the bigger story with the US right now is that they've actually admitted to the world that the Armenian Genocide was actually a GENOCIDE.

And they were only 11 years behind us on that one.

i think it's a bit of both. the idea of homeland security in the US has been built up to a such a level that things like this seem necessary and justified in order to deal with international terrorism. but it is an invasion of privacy and they wouldn't get away with it under different circumstances.
