MacBook or Mac techies

So I'm trying to launch the Photo Booth app and it says in can't find my built in iSight camera or that it is in use (and it's not). It then goes on to say - "Make sure your digital video camera is properly attached and turned on. If you are using the camera with another application, close that application before trying to open Photo Booth again."

Plugged in externally to my laptop is Serato (USB), external 500GB hard drive (FireWire 800), Edirol external audio capture box (FireWire 400) and a USB mouse.

Any idea on how to get this camera working?

(note... I'm still a newbie Mac user so my apologies if this is a super easy solve.)

Hey Kraig, I found this website where a guy was having a similar problem as you. When he installed something it updated the firmware on his macbook and the built-in iSight stopped working. Try going into applications > utilities > system profiler. Then go down to USB and it should be in that list under built-in iSight. I have a 17" macbook and my firmware version is 1.45 for iSight and it works fine.

i have to log out quite a bit because things fail to recognize like external hd, fail to see a connection, firefox would stop loading, etc.

sometimes a simple reboot/logout solves the problem.
and sometimes just ignoring the app for a day or two will do the trick too.

Did what you said and the camera isn't listed there.

LOL... actually it's kind of funny... I go to use the camera for the first time (been only using the laptop for Serato) only to discover it's not working.

Anyone else have any idea's on how to troubleshoot this? Rawb?

^send leviathan a message, he's a long time mac user and has a 17" Macbook Pro.

He should be able to help you out.

i would say take it back to mac, if its still under warranty, and hopefully you bought the applecare extended. its worth it.

which O/S are you running, i had to do some configuring to make it work on Leopard.

Dont worry Kraig, you'll get the hang of it and learn to love your mac.

My mac already has an input camera and has photo booth in my dock, yours? Maybe try taking out your other usbs as it could be confusing.

yeah, its probably a hardware faliure if you can't see it in the devices list. take it back to mac.

maybe, maybe not. i had a problem with some of the keys on my keyboard not working when i first got mine, hardware faliures. but i thought they would have already got em all fixed, the macbooks now are gen 3.

Yep... as I said, I think it is to do with the Mac update as it was working fine before that. I'll have to take it in next week though... Mac Store service is only open during the weekday's.

kraig , if it really bugs u that much,
downgrade the install w/ disc01. takes an hour. but beats taking it to the mac store kuz i really doubt they'll be able to fix ur problem w/out the install that u can do urself.

u don't lose anything and i doubt you'll get hacked or find anything troublesome by going back to 10.4.9 or wutever

get leopard! worth it, i believe you can pick it up for under 20 bucks from the website if you bought your mac within the last couple months.
