isn't prostitution legal, just the act of paying for sex illegal? (ie: the prostitute isn't doing anythng illegal?)

My sentiments about all debates like this, such as drug use. It's going to happen regardless or not.

The hardest part for governments to swallow is that by doing this, it could be perceived as condoning such acts.

That being said, prostitution will go on whether we like it or not, so we might as well make it safe for those involved. If prostitution was legalized and controlled, it would create a far safer environment for those involved. Having it more controlled would also limit the number of extremely young girls who are lured into the industry before they are old enough to know better.

so you're ok with it being taxed heavily then? Because I don't think other programs would be willing to fund its safety.

i agree with everything in those statements.

Yesterday i was talking with my dad about this same issue, and he thinks there should be a bordello/brothel and have it legislated, and have the "workers" tested periodically for safety. and all this other stuff. I think its a good idea. and tax the SHIT out of it as well.

This type of plan may be the best thing to come out of having the Olympics here, and it pisses me off that the Bible Thumpers are trying to kill it.

Seymour street is filling up lately... anybody else noticing? Over the last couple of years I've been seeing more prostitutes out on the streets than ever before out here.

^The religious right is what all our laws are based on so of course the BT's are out to shut it down. I'm just wondering when the gov't will pick up on the fact that not everyone in this country is a christian?

I can see why they would try to kill it, Moral, Religious issues. But That alone will not stop them, like mentioned by someone else before, its the oldest profession in the world, and its not going anywhere. So why not make it safer for those involved. This could also be a step forward in reducing the number of children who get involved nowadays.

I think its a great idea. It's a way to start cleaning up the streets as well. Make our city a little bit nicer. Everyone that walks in and out of that place, will have the same procedure now in place at some clubs, Swipe the ID, take a picture, safety on both ends to make sure nothing like the tragic "Pickton" thing ever happens again.

Most religions do have the same view on topics such as these. Not christian, but it seems BT's are the only ones trying to fight it.
